8/5-7 (KEE): Breeder's Cup Classic Future Wager ~ Pool 1
Flightline listed as Breeders' Cup Classic Future Wager favorite
Matt Hegarty | Aug 04, 2022 Flightline, the undefeated 4-year-old who romped to victory in the Metropolitan Mile in his only start this year, has been listed as the 3-1 morning-line favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic future pool, which opens on Friday. Flightline is one of 24 betting interests in the Classic future wager, along with 22 other individual horses and an “all-others” option. Betting will close at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday. Flightline, who is being pointed to the Sept. 3 Pacific Classic, is being listed as a narrow favorite over Life Is Good, 7-2 on the morning line. Next up is Olympiad, the 4-year-old colt riding a five-race win streak, at 9-2. Every other single horse in the field is listed at double-digits. Four of the horses in the future-wager field are entered to run in Saturday’s Whitney Stakes: Life Is Good, Olympiad, Hot Rod Charlie (20-1), and Americanrevolution (20-1). Americanrevolution (20-1), Charge It (15-1), Corniche (30-1), Country Grammar (20-1), Cyberknife (30-1), Dynamic One (30-1), Early Voting (20-1), Flightline (3-1), Emblem Road (30-1), Epicenter (20-1), Express Train (30-1), First Captain (30-1), Hot Rod Charlie (20-1), Life Is Good (7-2), Mandaloun (30-1), Nest (20-1), Olympiad (9-2), Rich Strike (30-1), Royal Ship (30-1), Stilleto Boy (30-1), Taiba (30-1), Tawny Port (30-1), Zandon (30-1), “AllOthers” 30-1. This weekend’s Classic future-wager pool is the first of two scheduled this year for the race. The other will open on Sept. 2 and close on Sept. 5, Labor Day. The minimum wager is $2, and takeout is 16 percent.

Why is Corniche included and why is anyone wagering any money on him?

Corniche 61-1 on Xpressbet. Stilletto Boy has the longest odds right now of 87-1. Epicenter 7-1, but the horse that beat him in the Derby Rich Strike 25-1.

I don't think Life is Good should even run in the Classic or Olympiad, for that matter.

Where would you like to see Life is Good run? If it's not the Classic, is the Dirt Mile your choice? Unless Flightline is in that race, I don't know if I want to see Life is Good win that race in another romp. I doubt Jackie's Warrior would be stretched out that far. I suppose Jack Christopher and Early Voting could be pointed in that direction and that could make for an interesting race but I still think Life is Good wins fairly easily. The only matchup out there that I really want to see is him vs Flightline.

But the reality is that Flightline will go to the Awesome Again ahead of retirement or an unplacing in the Classic. Life is Good will go to the Woodward ahead of an unplacing in the Classic. Olympiad will go the Lukas Classic ahead of a last ditch effort for a Grade 1 win in the Clark ahead of retirement. Only a matter of time before trainers in Japan and the Godolphin/Appleby juggernaut set their sights on the perennial easy pickings in the US dirt races. The turf races here are tougher nowadays... |

The Kelso is now in late October.
You're slipping.

Lately I've been easier pickings than US dirt races.
Now that I actually did my due diligence, I see the Vosburgh is back to 7 furlongs. Now they just need to bring back the Boojum. Life is Good would get champion sprinter and older horse with a canny late season campaign. Only dilemma would be which prep to use for the Cigar Mile, the Kelso or the Bold Ruler? |

Woodward BC Mile Cigar for Life is Good work for me. Win two of those three, and they could retire him, but I guess they will look to finish in the Donn. He is a very cool horse. That is the type of horse that excites fans. I don't need him Country Grammer or Dynamic One etc. to get the best of him in the final strides of the Classic. I don't see how that is awesome save-betting against him.
Olympiad should target the Cigar for his G1. Flight Risk? who knows with him? Let me see make the pp's |

When you consider the prospects of Grade 3 horses like Country Grammar & Dynamic One in the Classic (and furthermore previous winners like Volponi, Vino Rosso, Drosselmeyer, etc), you probably made a compelling argument for the suits to cut the Classic to 9 furlongs. Quote:
Poor Life is Good, he'd actually have to validate his bloated reputation by winning a race of some consequence over a true classic distance. Quote:

To be fair, Stilleto Boy did beat Express Train in a 3-horse field in a prep for the Gold Cup (which itself was one by an allowance horse) so I guess it probably means Flightline could have won those. Oh, and Baby Yoda (conquerer of Grade 1 winner-in-waiting Olympiad) won a couple of starter allowances this year, so there's that... |

While I can definitely understand having doubts about Flightline and Life is Good's ability to successfully get 10f in top company, I at least want to feel like there is actually a horse capable of taking advantage of their weaknesses. For Flightline in the upcoming Pacific Classic and Life is Good in the Woodward, I just don't see it.

What are the chances he makes the race? If he does, will he be higher or lower than 2:1?
It's beyond insane.

Read: All it takes to excite fans these days are a couple of open lengths wins in short fields of dubious quality from an unsound speedball with no stamina.
Just imagine Housebuster in this era of disposable "super horses"... Save the preps for the Derby; stakes racing isn't particularly interesting for the most part (on dirt). Too many stakes, too few owners that compete on such a level, and too few foals. Plus, the owners cooperate with one another vs. compete. I worked with Levy's brother-in-law at Lehman brothers. He had a great picture of Housebuster after winning the Kings Bishop |

Read: I don't need him to get exposed lest my excitement dissipates over the 39 seconds it will take him to see out the final 3 furlongs of a 10 furlong race.
I saw Life as Good well at GP, so the track at SPA "MAY" Have something to do with it? I don't think he wants any part of 10f's, and to be fair, Dynamic One may become Happy Saver. LOL |
