Hidden Scroll is the real deal. The horse that dueled with him and got run into the ground comes back and jogs in a stakes. To me Hidden Scroll is a lock on Saturday.

Is the field for the FL derby set yet? I’ve kept hearing that Vekoma is possible there but think they’re headed for somewhere the weekend after.

What about his last race makes anyone think he can beat Hidden Scroll or even Code of Honor.

He was coming off a long lay-off so I think he may have needed a race. When I thought he was finished, he just kept running and was able to nab Hidden Scroll for show. I like horses that want to run at the end like that. Plus I thought Code of Honor got a perfect trip and probably won’t happen again like that.

All that said, I’ve just been high on Vekoma since the Nashua. I could be wrong about him. I’m just not going to write him off after the Fountain of Youth. I thought it was a solid effort and I think he’s capable of improving with one under his belt now.

Alright, thanks. Last I heard, Weaver was keeping all options on the table. The bluegrass might be stacked this year. Not sure I like him going there.

Gladiator King displayed his sprint prowess amid his muddled and butchered form, underscoring the tall order Hidden Scroll had in dueling with him in the FOY.

Nevertheless, it's only an excuse, because unlike horses like Justify (with Grade 1 sprinter Promises Fulfilled) and Rachel Alexandra (with Eclipse champion Big Drama), Hidden Scroll did not survive the duel...even if you want to say he "buried" Gladiator King.

Turning to the Florida Derby, we see that in all likelihood, Hidden Scroll will now have to face another front-runner in Maximum Security, whose performance in a 7-furlong starter closely mirrored Hidden Scroll's maiden in speed-figure and visual terms.

The sheer fact that Maximum Security is in the Florida Derby and not the Hutcheson (how would he have fared in the latter?) should make you rethink the whole "lock" thing.

If he has taken to Mott's attempt to wrangle him back off the pace (and visually it doesn't appear the horse is particularly willing to do so), we could see an Unbridled's Song-type performance. If not, we might see a Coronado's Quest-type effort at worst, or a Lil's Lad-type effort (he survived a duel, lugged out, and was DQ'd) at best.
