the group 2 looks very very classy.. do you take the proven class of Kilybegs and Court Masterpiece off a layoff over some inform rivals..

Well, I look at LINGARI, 5th in the Cathay Pacific with only 2L, is making progress and could sorprise. Also SEIHALI is always nearest finish. A good one.

A very good race in prospect. On form you would say that Court Masterpiece should win this, but coming off a break and on ground that probably doesn't suit him as well as a softer surface he is probably worth taking on.

I quite like Kapil, who's form was just short of top class and the South African form is looking solid. Might just be the value here.

Here, if anyone wants to take a look.....

Al Fahidi Form Analysis

KING JOCK (USA) 2001 dk b/bf g Ghazi – Glen Kate (Glenstal) 34 starts 7-5-2 Racing in peak form. Has run at last three Carnivals, winning for Dermot Weld in 2005, Erwan Charpy in 2006 and now with new trainer. Completed National Day Cup – HH The President Cup double in Abu Dhabi before his latest effort when a very good second behind Great Rhythm in a very strong 95+ handicap in late January. Won up to Group 3 level last year but is capable at this level and this is his premium distance. Cannot be dismissed.

VANDERLIN (GB) 1999 ch g Halling – Massorah (Habitat) 49 starts 7-14-6 Having first run this campaign after an international campaign in 2006. Won Doncaster Mile in March before a very good fifth to Bullish Luck in the Champion’s Mile (with Seihali sixth) in Hong Kong. Only had the three runs after that being placed at Chester before two unplaced runs at Group 1 company. Has been placed at Group 1 level so is up to this.

SEIHALI (IRE) 1999 b h Alzao – Edwina (Caerleon) 20 starts 7-3-5 Class galloper who deserves a change of luck here. Won a very strong handicap over 1,777m here and was placed in three other runs at last year’s Carnival, incl a third in the Group 2 Jebel Hatta (with Lord Admiral second) before his third in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free. He then ran very well over this trip when sixth (beaten under three lengths) in the Champion’s Mile in Hong Kong. Has again showed consistency in his two runs this campaign, finishing third on both occasions, the latest in a 95+ handicap over 1,777m two weeks ago. Back in trip here but about to return to his best.

LINNGARI (IRE) 2002 ch h Indian Ridge – Lidakiya (Kahyasi) 15 starts 7-1-1 Winner of this race last year when beating Lord Admiral. Disappointed in Dubai Duty Free after that before being sent to Europe where he ran very well in three starts, the best being his second to Caradak in the Group 1 Prix de la Foret at Longchamp. Was beaten less than a length when fourth in Group 3 company after that but on final run of the year was very unlucky when fifth behind The Duke in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile in December. Very good performer who races well here and expect forward showing on reappearance.

KILLYBEGS (IRE) 2003 b c Orpen – Belsay (Belmez) 11 starts 3-3-1 Joined Godolphin after a very good season in England last year. Won Group 3 Craven Stakes in April at Newmarket but then went unplaced in three subsequent runs. After that improved to be narrowly beaten by Caradak in the Group 2 Celebration Mile (with George Washington third) before his fourth to George Washington in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot. Final run of the year saw him again run well, finishing second to Sleeping Indian in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. Has class and expect bold showing at first run for new stable.

COURT MASTERPIECE (GB) 2000 b h Polish Precedent – Easy Option (Prince Sabo) 32 starts 7-6-7 Class runner of this field with two wins at Group 1 level, the 2005 Prix de la Foret and 2006 Sussex Stakes. Changed stables since latest effort when ninth (beaten under two lengths) behind Fusaichi Richard in the Hanshin Cup, that followed another good effort in the Group 1 Mile Championship behind Daiwa Major, in Japan. Showed best form of career last year and if he can bring that here will be hard to beat despite having to carry 3kg penalty.

KAPIL (SAF) 2002 b g Jallad – Outstanding Star (Bletchingly) 8 starts 6-1-0 Quality South African performer who comes here with imposing record. Form as a three-year-old was impressive, after being unplaced in the South Africa Guineas in Cape Town won three successive races culminating in victory in the Group 2 KZN Guineas in Durban. Final start for the season saw him finish second in the Group 1 Gold Challenge. That was in early June and he hasn’t raced since so fitness against this class line-up the query however he does have the ability.

LORD ADMIRAL (USA) 2001 b h El Prado – Lady Ilsley (Trempolino) 27 starts 2-10-6 Quality performer but record of just two wins from 27 starts doesn’t prove it. Has been placed on 16 occasions incl second in this event behind Linngari last year before a second to Touch Of Land in the Jebel Hatta. On return to Ireland was placed on a number of occasions at Group level incl a third to Hurricane Run in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. Deserves a change of luck and may get it here.

NAYYIR (GB) 1998 ch g Indian Ridge – Pearl Kite (Silver Hawk) 34 starts 9-3-4 Lightly raced for a nine-year-old and having first run at this course since his third (beaten a head) in the 2004 Dubai Duty Free. Is extremely consistent on both surfaces and was campaigned on both turf and all weather last year, incl his latest win on the all weather at Lingfield in mid November. Twice a winner at this level in 2002 and 2003 and never runs a bad race so expect forward showing.

VORTEX (GB) 1999 b g Danehill – Roupala (Vaguely Noble) 54 starts 16-8-5 Grand campaigner who turned in good performance when defeating Ans Bach here in a 90-105 handicap on the turf two weeks ago. This is harder however his previous runs in Group company have been good, incl a Group 3 success in 2005. Is in peak form and at peak fitness.

My bad...overlooked most recent race because I remembered his start at Saratoga...
a small W/P wager I'll put on him today

R1 - Blue Sky God (nap)
R2 - Calabash Cove
R3 - Caesar Beware (e/w)
R4 - Dynamic Saint (his last run can be forgotten, and if you do forget it, he would be just about the FAV for this race, i think)
R5 - Kapil
R6 - Sushisan (form links well with Kapil, so it that runs well, expect a bold show from this one)
R7 - Naipe Marcado (NB) Very well thought of and i expect this to win with ease - the onlt reason it isn't the NAP is the bad draw.

Race #8 Loock, significant that Kerrin McEvoy has jumped ship to Ismail Mohammed's Naipe Marcado, a Grade 1 winner in his native Uruguay, instead of Godolphin´s Poseidon. Also Im respect the evolution of QUORUM.

Slightly concerned at the form of the Godolphin horses. All of them have seemed to find very little once they come of the bridle. The one in the first was backed as if defeat was out of the question but never looked like getting into it.

A watching brief with their runners until they get a winner, early signs not good for their major hopes later next month.
