It's not often you can win a free contest, pocket $500.00 and feel disappointed. However, that may be the case for the Extreme Racing Day Contest Winner, Peter Lee of San Pedro, CA. He had a tremendous day, picking 7 winners in 12 races and achieving the highest Handicapping Score of 173.70. But, ironically, Lee had all 6 winners on top in the pick 6 sequence. A $1.00 pick 6 ticket combining his top selection in each of those races would have cost him $1.00. No one hit the pick 6 with a pool of over $5,300. Hopefully, the $500.00 top prize will ease his pains somewhat.
Diane Northfield of Sherwood Park, AB, was able to grab second with a score of 141.40. She was able to pick the most winners of any contestant with 8. However, only one of her winners were over 9-5. The defining race was the most extreme race on the card, Race 7. It was the turf/dirt simultaneous event. Peter Lee had the winner at 7-1. Diane earned $250.00 for 2nd place. Austin Langlois of Muskegon, MI snuck by Michael Yeck of Philadelphia, PA and Andy Dowden of Manchester, NY in a tight three way photo for 3rd, 4th and 5th. Langlois earned a 137.80 Handicapping Score and had a 7-1, 6-1 and 7-2 on top. Dan Flanigan of Minneapolis, MN was the only local player to hit the top ten. He managed a Handicapping Score of 111.48. A final ironic twist: Had race caller Paul Allen submitted an entry, he would have won the contest. The selections he gave out on the paddock show gave him a handicapping score of 176.00. Thank you to all of the 75 contestants who took part in this contest!!! The full results can be found on the sub tab within the Contest link. If the 4 would have won the last race it looks like I probably would have slipped into 2nd place. Pretty cool to win $150 for free, and it was a lot of fun to participate in this contest. I was kicking myself a few times for picking the chalk in the race, then throwing him out and picking a horse at longer odds that I liked, only to see the chalk romp.
Thanks for posting this contest Split Rock, it was a lot of fun and I'm glad I participated in it. |

Great job finishing third.
One question to anyone that played in the contest... Did you bet on any of the Canterbury races? |

I bet 8 of the 12 races, mainly because I was in the contest and took the time to cap it. I ended up making some money, the 7th race really helped me because I had the 2 to win and place at 7-1, and I'm pretty sure that helped me a lot in the contest having him on top. In the 2 3/8 mile race I picked the 4 in the contest, but when I was placing my bets at the track I changed to the 2 horse across the board and he got 2nd at 19-1. It was a fun day of racing, and I stayed away from betting every track and stuck to Canterbury and Belmont for the day.

Edged out for third. COngrats to the top finishers. I ended up betting two races out of the 13, with both bets hitting. (One being tres miniscule). 75 bucks for a free contest, awesome.
