Default Lutyens - Del Mar 4th

Lutyens - a 6yo gelding that cost $1.6mil five years ago is entered in a 25000 maiden claimer. My question is - Why would you geld a $1.6mil purchase?

A lot of times horses have to be gelded for medical reasons. It's usually a last resort on this type of purchase, but it happens.

From Brisnet:

4TH - LUTYENS (Dixieland Band) has come close to breaking his maiden in each of his two starts at this Del Mar meet. The chestnut missed by only a half-length here on July 21 before stretching out to a route and coming up only 1 1/2 lengths short last out. The gelding's BRIS Speed ratings are in line with the best of this field and he tops the field by more than seven points in BRIS Prime Power. With a couple of starts over the surface to his credit, this appears to be an ideal spot for Lutyens to finally get over the hump

One of their Best Plays of the day. Bet he won't be 3-1, and will probably lose. Might win, but...not a wager in my world
