Default Tomcito !!!

working like a true monster beast at keenland, dam....

Tuesday morning, Tomcito sharpened for the race by working three furlongs from the gate in 34.60 seconds over the Keeneland Polytrack.

"I think I have the horse to beat," Zanelli said. "He is getting better and better, and he is not even blowing" after the work.

not from pg.

if he's touting something it's based on more than a passing fancy.

listen and learn rookie.

im not touting him... i liked him in florida, and his third really did not do it for me.
if he runs well this weekend and makes it to the derby he could be interesting

they're not weird. you couldn't predict weird.

but ever since pg came back you could depend on a post after a prep was run that he liked the winner in the derby. sometimes the second place runner.

just wait for the lexington and see.

the trainer comments aside, I think this horse could very well figure prominently. he is one of the few that you know will be fine with the distance and will not be backing up. only one race this year and it wasn't overwhelming by any means but he might have needed that one. He had a solid foundation last year including 10 and 12 furlongs, could be a logical one to use as an exotics key.

Most importantly, he has a three syllable name. How many "t" horses have won the Derby in the last, say, 20 years? Thunder Gulch (also three syllables)?

Street Sense broke a streak of six straight three syllable winners of the Derby.

Maybe he's another polytrack lover that can win the Lexington, but he's not Derby material.

Why do you say that? The horse has raced exclusively on the real stuff throughout his career - and won.

There were a couple of babies who worked a 1/4 over the polytrack at KEE in 20 2/5th seconds.

For very short distances - that surface is insanely fast compared to dirt. The longer they go - the much, much, much slower they go.

can you say derby fever, theres probably 20 trainers right now claiming they have the horse to beat ! watch the races , read the horses form and come up with a vialable horse at a valuable price. if you listen to trainers and owners you'll be betting all 19 or 20 of them ! watch the next 3 weeks ,if you listen to sports casters and writers , most who know nothing about horse racing . big brown will be Gods gift , take the chalky price and take your lumps derby day .

Very true. Damn near every 4 1/2-panel baby race I see there goes in :50 and change.

and yes he raced in Peru, but he was winning by some pretty gaudy margins. he might fit in very well with this rather undistinguished group we have this year.

that actually makes a lot of sense... i mean the group has done nothing, he did run third off of a long long layoff, you'd figure a 2-3 this weekend, and he's be primed 3 start back for the derby... not impossible

I think that's a bit harsh, Hossy. A claimer? Are the nine or so horses who finished in arrears of Tomcito in the Florida Derby all claimers as well? Hey Byrn? Fierce Wind?
