Default 5/16: Hi Ho.. Pimlico! (Special/Susie Day)

Find Friday card at Ol' Hilltop more appealling than Saturday's Preakness slate, and happy to bring the Woodlawn, Gr. I Special, Very One and Gr. II Susan live on 'At the Races'.. Much like Derby Weekend, rain is in the forecast for Baltimore today, but it doesn't look like what we got Oaks Day in Louisville. Adjust accordingly though, and Preakness Day looks good.

PIMLICO RACE COURSE

7th: ALW/N1X, 3+, 5f (P6, P3, Super)

OFF THE TURF (10-2-7-14) 4-7-13-2

8th: 23rd Miss Preakness (Gr. III), 3yo-F, 6f (P3, Super)

Most Likely: #4 PALANKA CITY 9-5 WON
Best Value: #1 Casanova Killer 6-1 2nd
Next Best: #5 SCR
Exotics Add: #2 SCR

9th: 43rd Woodlawn, 3yo, 1m-T (P4, Super)

OFF THE TURF (1-4-7-8) 1-5-4-2

10th: 41st Pimlico Special (Gr. I), 4+, 9.75f (P3, Special-Preakness Double, Super)

Intriguing return of the famed standard originated in the Seabiscuit-War Admiral Match Race.. Wide open affair making the Special-Preakness Double interesting as a way to cover Big Brown today if planning to go against tomorrow..

Best Value: #8 Sir Whimsey 10-1: 3rd Toner colt can win at price returning to prefered type of main track and to level of Gr. II GP 'Cap score two back..

Most Likely: #7 Grasshopper 3-1: 5th Howard 4yo slightly a 'most likely' as any here with consistant tab and plus style for undertaking; Never off board career and stake try last was not his bag when chasing runaway KMc train, and $20k Chuck Simon purchase, Divine Park..

Next Best: #2 Gottcha Gold 9-2: 2nd Concerned that this wasn't Plesa's original goal, but Chucky sticks when he could have had 'Saint' and ability to sit off anticipated solid pace should work well..

Exotics Add: #5 Xchanger 20-1: 7th Not leaving hot-working Shuman 4yo off exotic tix going 2nd/break, Sprint/Route, Poly/Dirt on track where he took '07 Tesio..

11th: 9th Very One, F&M-3+, 5f-T (P3, Super)

OFF THE TURF (9-2-7-11) 7-11-9-12

12th: 84th Black-Eyed Susan (Gr. II), 3yo-F, 9f (DD, Super)

Very difficult edition of this race and I'll take shot with Canani visitor Seattle Smooth (#6, 10-1); Highest Class and Bsharpsonata are left out of the in-race selections, but will be on my multi-race wagers as cover..

Best Value: #6 Seattle Smooth 10-1: 3rd Note fig boost when off synthetic first time and fact that Canani doesn't show up in these parts too often; Gets Edgar and my money..

Most Likely: #8 She's All Eltish 5-2: 2nd Wolfson another invader who rarely leaves home state and Bonnie Miss winner has been consistant earner from beginning of career; Gomez hops on and stalking style should suit..

Next Best: #2 Sweet Vendetta 8-1: Inviting price on Stephen Got Even bay that sharpened as winter went on; Wonder if Contessa thought about this spot after AQU Inner stake win 3/19?

Exotics Add: #1e Zayat entry 8-1: 5th/6th Doubt the 8-1 holds on this Dutrow-Romans pair that can attack race from front and back end..

$2 Exacta (2-8) Paid $85.80
$2 Trifecta (2-8-6) Paid $514.20

13th: MSW, 3+, 8.5f-T (Super)

OFF THE TURF (2-3-6) 6-12-3-2 $2 Pick 3 (7-2-6) $708.80

Good luck!
Steve

Some? Another great weekday afternoon generally scuttled. Very frustrating.

Unbelievable. It's their biggest weekend and they don't run on the turf. I'm not betting a single dollar at Pimlico. **** those idiots.

A true shame. Weather has not been kind this last year to big days.

Of course, I'm the worst turf handicapper on the planet, so they probably saved me a few bucks.

Even the Graded Stakes are off the turf... Geesh.. what the heck are they saving their turf course for if not for Graded Stakes.. Maybe the 4 horse workouts that masqurade for races on a daily basis... This track is in BIG TROUBLE... Given the fact that today USUALLY is their second biggest handle and their handle this year is paltry I have to wonder who is at the helm...

I'd caution those admonishing Pimlico to relent a bit...

It's not be a question of trying to "save" the turf course, though there are 2 graded stakes on the grass tomorrow that would take precedent over the 2 listed stakes today...

A soggy turf course is a recipe for breakdowns the day you race over it as horses tire unexpectedly, and even more so the NEXT day when the divots and hoof holes firm up and horses step in them and break legs..

Default Track Maintenance

Hello,

Wanted to share this article in the hope it gets consideration in advance of tomorrow's races. Not sure this is the right place on the Forum, but with the rain today and Steve at track hope it gets due consideration to ensure the safety of all involved tomorrow.

http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/edito...e.cgi?id=11478

I'll stick to the Pimlico Special/PrReakness Double now they are off the turf today.

There's absolutely no excuse. If that's the main reason why then we might as well shut down all of the tracks. You cannot give an inch to these terrorists.

I'm fed up with how weak this industry is. You would think Jimmy Carter is the head of the NTRA. Will someone please show some backbone?

I agree 100%. It isn't their fault the weather sucks. Their turf course is narrow, so moving the rails out isn't much of an option, either.

The Woodlawn is actually MORE interesting now, as Hatta Fort was pretty much a layup...

Didn't look at it that way... We don't need any breakdowns this weekend...

Sure, with 'daily' being the operative word... Horses there are raised with it and are 100% used to it in all its' forms as opposed to what passes for turf here. A firm U.S. turf course is like a furry main track to a Euro..
