Absolutely horrible. They say that McClellan is one of the best but I've never seen anything good from him. Serious changes should come the past two post season screw ups.

What's crazy .... is that the home plate umpire last night was doing a much better job of calling balls and strikes than in any playoff game I've seen so far.

That guy is awesome at that. I would assume any MLB ump would be ... but from watching some games lately ... most of them royally suck... as evidence of that fancy strike zone box they show with every pitch on TBS and some closer pitches on FOX.

There have been guys in the playoffs who would call a pitch way outside a strike if the catcher set up a bit outside - and even call pitches balls if the pitch was right down the middle but the pitch missed the catchers spot.

I've never bet on baseball - and I don't know anyone who's been successful doing it - but I would have to think someone who does it well would have to know all the detailed little habbits of each umpire and how they call games. Especially if they're betting the over/unders.

No two individual ump's strike zones seem to be the same... but at least the guy yesterday was right everytime.

The two blown calls at 3rd base and the one at 2nd base are obviously easy to fix. You just use a challenge system like the NFL has.

You get 2 a game - if you're right with both you're allowed a 3rd. You have to throw the challenge flag before the next pitch is thrown. There has to be indisputable visual evidence to overturn a call. And you can't challenge balls and strikes.

Pretty f'n simple. No?
