Better days for the Browns?
They have Baltimore and Pittsburgh left on the Schedule (2 near certain defeats)
Right now -- they own the #5 slot, #23 slot, and #37 slot in the 2012 draft. Jacksonville has the #4 slot right now -- and they close out the season with Indy at home in Jacksonville. A game they will be a TD favorite or more to win. Cleveland has a great shot of drafting #4 overall and with 3 picks in the top 36 slots. The Browns two tackles are two of the best in the game -- especially at pass blocking. The center is excellent and young. On offense...they really only need a guard, a quarterback, at least one wideout... and just health at the running back position if they bring both Hillis and Hardesty back... a very capable duo when healthy. On defense...things look very promising for the future. They have real quality young players at all levels. I don't see any true positional need ... they just need one impact player, anywhere at any position. They didn't spend in free agency last year -- in fact, a starting corner took less money to go play in Detriot for the Lions. The Browns are just one good draft and one active off-season in free agency away from having a very good football team. The Bengals also have a lot of hope going forward ... while the average age of the Ravens defense is like 38-years-old and the average age of the Steelers defense is like 48-years-old. |

Well that would be nice.I have seen very, very little of them this year, but from what I read and put together..the older corner and the free safety are tough and smart...but have that diminished skills bug.Other than D-Jackson, I don't think much of the linebackers. The two rookies on the d-line have done well and show promise. We could certainly use one other guy who can create pressure. So I do see about 5 holes there, but the other 6 will get even better. I think we have 2 good o-line guys.Pathos? The right tackle?I don't know about that one.A big part of our offensive problems has been that o-line...although the play calling sniffs bizarre. If Hillis leaves, we need another good rb to replace. We could use another qb...no doubt about that anymore.I think 2-3 of this gang of wide outs might turn out pretty OK. I do not think the WC offense fits the AFC North, like....at all.Don't like the coach nor the Prez. I think they are easily 4 years away from even thinking about making an SB...if at all under this regime. Really , as a team over the course of this year they have been not sa hot and the offense has been abysmal.Just seems like there's a long, long way to go. |

ABOUT THE BROWNS . . .
I talked to an AFC executive whose team plays the Browns in some seasons. "What's their problem?" I asked. He said: "They have put together a decent defense. I really like the kid from Pitt [Jabaal Sheard]. He can be a big-time player. [Phil] Taylor and [Ahtyba] Rubin are good tackles, but they desperately need another defensive end. Get a guy who is pretty good over there, and Sheard can really make an impact. [Joe] Haden, [T.J.] Ward, and [D'Qwell] Jackson are very good. Our coaches really love Jackson." "So it's not defense?" I asked. "They can always get better, especially at linebacker," he said. "But what division do the Browns play in?" "The AFC North," I said. "Who are the quarterbacks?" he asked. "Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Andy Dalton, and . . ." "And your guy," he said. "Does Colt [McCoy] even come close to comparing with them? Here's the problem -- you play six games against those teams, often in bad weather. I think you need a quarterback who is physically big with a strong arm." "So you don't like McCoy," I said. "Not in that division," he said. "I'm not saying it's easy to find one. Think of all the quarterbacks that Baltimore went through before Flacco -- [Kyle] Boller, [Trent] Dilfer, [Tony] Banks, [Steve] McNair, [Elvis] Grbac . . . I'm sure I'm forgetting some guys. Ben put Pittsburgh on the map for the Super Bowl. Dalton can play. Our coaches think Seneca [Wallace] is tougher to defend [than McCoy] because he's more mobile, but he's a backup. For years, the Browns have had a terrible offense and a quarterback problem. They usually go together." "The Browns do have two first-round picks," I said. "That can help them get a quarterback," he said. "But you have to be right. If they aren't sure [on a quarterback], then take two players who can really make an impact. Look at what [wide receiver A.J.] Green has done for the Bengals. When you play the Browns, you set your defense to stop [Peyton] Hillis. You can have a safety follow him, because no one in the passing game [quarterback or receivers] worries you." "So if you were the Browns, you'd be looking for a quarterback," I said. "In that division, they have no other choice," he said. "But don't force it. That is a team that needs impact players at a lot of positions." Just thayin'. |

Robert Griffin clyde.....he's the answer. He will make them perhaps good enough to perhaps to not be just good enough to lose every game like they do now. One thing I've noticed since Colt's concussion is they look exactly the same on offense. I think that means Colt is like a nfl more than it is saying Wallace is any good. Get him then start on the other help with Atlanta's first rounder they have. Most likely is whatever happens in the draft it will not work.

Ain't that the truth?
Amazing that the lead actor can be changed and the script is still carried out to perfection. You don't notice a difference...not one bit. So it's scary ,is what it is. |
