February 4 Gulfstream ROI Wagers go here . . .
Back at Gulfstream with temps in the high 70's and some rain forcasted. I'll take that, minus the rain, over what we've been having here in north Texas lately. Enjoy the Day!!!

I probably don't have sufficient coverage to play an effective pick 5, but using our $100 (or as it so often is $96) bankroll, here is my shot. One of the good things about the Gulfstream pick 5 is that they offer a conso payoff for tickets that have 4 out of 5 correct. One of the bad things about the Gulfstream pick 5 is trying to figure out the number of times a ticket has hit 4 out of 5. My apologies to RQ in advance for having to figure out the number of consos if I am so fortunate.
Race 8: $0.50 pick 5: 1,7 / 1,4 / 3,7,8 / 1,2,7,8 / 1,4,6,8 ($96) Good luck to all and thank you to Real Quiet for scoring. |

I think I'm going to have to stop playing these 3 year old preps until the runners sort themselves out a bit. I might have the winner among my picks, but getting those that complete the 2nd, 3rd and 4th slots very difficult for vertical players. Most of the runners have only had a handful of races and playing them is almost like playing maiden races. Playing these races, I generally dig a hole for myself that is increasingly hard to exit. Considering past years, I'm guessing we find ourselves still in Florida, but a bit further north next week.

Yes Cal, I had circled races 5 and 11 to make my typical exacta wager. I picked 5 and not 11 unfortunately, since race 11 paid $30 and change for a $1 exacta.

I only looked at 9,10,11 and 12 and my initial impression was to play Race 11 too. I think that was the race that Cairo Consort looked like the likely winner, but so did the fave in Race 12 so went with that one. Problem is that the runners in the preps just don't have much experience and can improve immensely with time and sometimes with a better trip so probably better to stay away from those races until they become maybe slightly more predictable, if that is even possible. If predictability made it any easier though, you would have thought it more than likely that someone would have easily predicted the outcome of the Pegasus which had a field of seasoned runners, but the $4000+ Superfecta for a single dime, probably puts that notion to rest.
