Typical Baffert work. They all work fast.

I dont seem to recall many fast ones from PD though and I have had him on my watch list since he was 2. I could be mistaken though.

I remember Point of Impact worked like that all the time last year... never seemed to duplicate it on the track though. -- Of course, that one couldn't figure out which direction he was supposed to run!

I don't remember PD's workout times from last year...

however, I do remember hearing about how he was "a real lazy" horse in the morning.

I believe he debuted on opening day of Santa Anita last year. He was coupled with another Baffert debuter---I want to say named Royal Legacy. Anyway, the story was that they worked in company, and Point Determined was dusted by his entrymate.

Kev
Looked at his Derby PPs and Last March 27 he had the exact work at Santa Anita

Last I heard was on ATRAB (I think, not positive) that Pletcher's goal was the Bluegrass Stakes, since he won the Bourbon Stakes at the end of the fall meet on the Poly with a 97 beyer going 1 1/16th. Could be real interesting to see what they do with him if he runs well there. I'll check with my buddy in Florida and see if he knows when his '07 debut will be.

I think he can have an OK year.

Cajungator26 01-22-2007 08:53 AM

Isn't Point Determined a big colt? I think he is, so I would say that perhaps he's matured a bit and will have a better 4 year old season.

The Indomitable DrugS 01-22-2007 08:57 AM

He's pretty big and well made as I remember.

Point of Impact was the gigantic one though. Same sire, same age, same barn.

I recall an article where Baffert said he and Midnight Lute were the best in his barn...did this horse ever start again?

Yes--he was a beaten favorite twice more.

Running 2nd both times---once to Point Determined on the stretch-out. The other to a Stute/Kent D. horse who was 2nd to SNS in the Illonois Derby next out.

He was layed up after that. That's the last I know of him anyway.

I always thought he had a chance to mature into a better horse as the year went by last year, but he fell of the radar. Hopefully he's mentally more mature.

I'm pretty sure Baffert worked PD three quarters in 1:10 and change the week before the Super Derby. That seemed to work really well for him.
