![]() This is a small portion of an article that I wrote which will be published tomorrow about my experience. If anyone would like to read the entire piece, pm me and I will send you the link tomorrow morning before I leave for The Jug.
"A modest crowd was in attendance, nothing like the close to 50,000 people who will pack the Delaware County Fairgrounds to be a part of this tradition. The first Jug was held in 1946, and it has done nothing but grow every year since. You want a seat for the races today, good luck as they are a dime a dozen as folks order their seats a year in advance. Today I spoke with fans from Tennessee, Canada, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and even California. Folks take their vacation just to come to this quaint town of Delaware. I sat today next to a man who has been to every Jug since 1981. He said he wasn't even an avid Harness fan until he stepped foot onto these hallowed grounds and instantly he was hooked for life. You will meet and see people of all walks of life; young, old, rich, poor and everything in between. Just by paying admission you are able to walk thru the stall areas and get up close and personal to the stars of the show. As you make your way thru the grounds, all of a sudden a voice bellows down the halls and thru the stands, that voice belongs to no other then Roger Huston, celebrating his 40th year announcing at Delaware. It will send chills down your spine. Everything about this experience will send chills down your spine and create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. " |
