B,
I'm a big fan as well.
The only excuse I can offer (and remember, excuses are for losers becuase winners don't have to make them), is that Javier moved him too early...at the 3/8th pole. Shoulda saved him for later.
Not a bad race for him. I hope he passes on the good stuff to his foals.
I don't think we'll see him run again (unfortunately).

I think that the jockey moved him too soon, but I'm not sure he could have beaten Invasors' kick!

I appreciate this thread and those fans of the horse that can admit he was beaten by the better horse on that day (although I think everyday ). It's a shame we'll never get to see them square off again but that's modern day horse racing.

Sure there are excuses. He got beat by an older more experienced warrior who this man (meaning me) thought would not be ready. Note to self: His trainer can get horses ready off a layoff.

He ran as well as he could given the circumstances. If Invasor was not there some would have him as Secretariat. Looking back, how was Javier supposed to know. Every race had been a cake walk after a move like he made. The field crumbled. This was a very different field. Full of good horses. I would not call it as deep as some of the prior years, but for an inexperienced (experienced in short mediocre fields) 3 year old to almost pull it off... a very nice run.
