This major event takes place tonight and all the reports are that the horses and trainers are thrilled with the new surface. Now we'll see how the races will be.

If anyone needed Poly it was Woodbine and Turfway. Woodbine basically runs all year so they need this type of surface. I think it will be a success.

just looking at some of the results of tonights initial races on the all weather track and i don't see anything unusual. speed seems to be holding although a determined effort from off the pace can finish in the money.

I was on the fence on the issue, but after seeing todays races I am sure its going to be great. I hated the kickback, but the results on the horses can not be debated. There was no kickback at WO, and it looked exactly the same.

The announcer said that the horses go almost as fast on the slower surface because they are more comfortable with the footing as its completely even so they trust themselves to go at full speed.

Sumitas,
As you know, I'm all for safety.
The full card wouldn't down load, so I ask based only what I say.
Do you think the splits were a bit slow? Does this surface make for slower splits and make the horses work harder?
I only ask because one of mine trained in South Jersey at a private farm. Their training track was pure sand, no base...kinda like running at the beach.
Very safe for the horse but very slow.
