Absolutely... unfortunately, most people will think the same thing!

If we put a line through the derby, I did like his Arkansas Derby. The problem is the Z horse that finished 2nd in the race ran up the track in the derby. Which is not a good recommendation in my eyes.

And the Arkanasas Derby horses that ran in the Lone Star Derby stunk it up despite figures that suggested they'd be competitive. They botched the figures in the Arkansas Derby by not splitting the variant. Treat it as if a 94 Beyer won the race and then decide if he still looks good to you.

I've been saying this for a minute. Gayego's a toss for me, and I disagree with the notion that he'll somehow provide value in exotics. The second choice in a race with an odds-on favorite rarely provides value anywhere but maybe on top in a multi-race wager.

Going to take a shot with Racecar Rhapsody simply based on the idea of him getting off the Poly. Other than that will be limited wagering

Has there ever been a race with 13 entrants as seemingly unbettable as this one?

As Kasept also mentioned yesterday, it appears Maryland Jockey Club will soon be on its third head in six months as Magna has replaced Lou Raffetto's replacement with the gentleman who currently runs Rosecroft, a PG County, Maryland, harness facility, according to today's Washington Post. Last I checked, Rosecroft is on such poor financial footing that they're down to one day of live racing each week, and a deal to sell the facility to Penn National Gaming even fell through earlier this year.

Nothing else to add other than there have been some curious decisions in Maryland racing the last six months or so.

Default Big Brown the 1-2 favorite for Preakness Stakes

Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown is the 1-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 133rd Preakness Stakes, for which 13 three-year-olds were entered this morning. None of the other 12 horses are less than single-digit odds in linemaker Frank Carulli’s line.

Post positions won't be determined until late this afternoon, when a traditional draw will be held at the ESPN Zone in the Inner Harbor (5-6 p.m. EDT ESPN2).

The Preakness broke from the Kentucky Derby last year in reverting back to the time-honored “luck of the draw” instead of the two-tiered system Churchill Downs instituted 11 years ago where participants select their horses’ starting posts.

Besides Big Brown, Gayego is the only other Derby starter to advance to the 1 3/16-mile Preakness, marking only the sixth time since 1918 that only two starters made both races. The last time was in 1980 when Codex, who was not nominated to the Derby, defeated Derby-winning filly Genuine Risk.

Here are the horses, with riders and trainers, with Pimlico oddsmaker Frank Carulli’s odds:

Big Brown Desormeaux/Dutrow 1-2

Behindatthebar Flores/Pletcher 10-1

Gayego Smith/Lobo 8-1

Giant Moon Dominguez/Schosberg 30-1

Hey Byrn Lopez/Plesa 20-1

Icabad Crane Rose/Motion 30-1

Kentucky Bear Theriot/Baker 15-1

Macho Again Leparoux/Stewart 20-1

Racecar Rhapsody Albarado/McPeek 30-1

Riley Tucker Prado/Mott 30-1

Stevil Velazquez/Zito 30-1

Tres Borrachos T. Baze/Greely 30-1

Yankee Bravo Solis/Gallagher 15-1

For those of us unable to watch television at the moment, any chance someone could update us on the draw? I'm sure Big Brown is 13.

Do you mean the horse beaten by 36.75 lengths by Big Brown?
