This makes perfect sense cause every time it's a tad too sunny I enjoy building a Pegasus defeating a dragon for shade.

(I just keep thinking your quote would have been funnier if he had said "erected to block out the sun and destroy humankind", but that's just me).

Trojan horse?

I do hope that somebody did the engineering analysis to make sure that that thing is hurricane proof. Especially since it is hollow - large shards of material blowing in unpredictable directions is not something we need.

I was in So. FL last weekend and saw this hideous statue. There are certainly less expense and more attractive ways to offer shade to patrons. The worst result of this, IMO, is the huge price hike this year hitting some of the track's best customers. Prices for the boxes have been more than doubled to $25,000 and suits upped from $35,000 to $75,000. Clearly those folks are being stuck for a large portion of the bill for this absurd statue. I'm guessing that other seating options will be increased, as well.

I don't think it's to offer customers shade...

"Pegasus is the centerpiece of a planned destination called Pegasus Park, which eventually could bring in Ferris wheels and water slides to beef up the current draws of dining, shopping, slot machines and horse racing.

“This will be the biggest attraction south of Orlando,” said Gulfstream general manager Tim Ritvo.

....." Now, Gulfstream wants to emphasize fun more than fashion and beef up its entertainment options. The summer of 2013 was the first to have weekend races, ending Gulfstream’s seasonal schedule in hopes of creating more traffic for the property. The park plans to expand its spectator grandstand with the goal of winning back the prestigious Breeder’s Cup."

Well yeah... that's one of the layers of ridiculousness of the shade line since they've talked about Pegasus Park from the beginning.

Maybe, if they do manage to get the BC, they could take a page from Win and You're In and have something like Losing Ride 'N' Slide for the jocks with flames coming from the doomed dragons mouth and stuff.

I would so wish Brice Blanc had a BC mount...

It is South Florida--there is no such thing as bad taste here. It is no different than the moving artwork at Marlins Park--an expression of the owners ego, take it or leave it.
