![]() Unless living under a rock we've all heard about the 'Jackie' story in Rolling Stone falling apart. I stumbled across this op-ed that summarizes the unfortunate seemingly made up story the best. Namely false claims of rape are extremely rare (2%-8%) however what the article fails to point out is when you consider 60% of all rapes go unreported the percent of false claims shrinks to between less than 1% to 3.2%.
Shocking to me and pointed out in the article is only 3% of all rapists ever do prison time. The known recidivism rate among those who did time is 60%, surely it's at least equal among those not prosecuted and the average amount of rape victims per rapist is almost 6. The sad irony is the percentage of those punished for rape is likely lower than those making false claims. ![]() With 400,000 rape kits still untested I think the prudent move would be to put a stop payment on the $3 billion check recently sent to the U.N. in an attempt to bribe the Chi-coms into reducing carbon emissions, set aside $400 million ($1,000 per test) and clear the backlog. Use the remaining $2.6 billion and initiate minimum/mandatory sentences for the first rape/sexual assault conviction (I'd suggest 20yr./5yr. respective sentences) and tripling it for a second conviction. Surely the safety and protection of our women (mothers, sisters, wives and daughters) are more valuable than Chinese carbon emissions. How many here would pay to repair a car when there was a 60% chance the fix wouldn't work? The money being thrown at treatment, counseling and rehab for these rapists would be much better spent incarcerating them for extended periods of time and doing away with the hope and a prayer treatment. Whereas if the repairs don't work on the car all we're out is money. If the treatment of a rapist doesn't work, we're not only out of the money spent but also are partly to blame for future rapes that will be expected to occur among 60% of those released. Bottom line is a heinous crime deserves a heinous punishment and the false cries of rape are so rare, they are a non-factor! Period! http://www.washingtonpost.com/postev...aims/?hpid=z11 |
