Default Unsurprising

But still infuriating. America. Where a cop can shoot a 7-year-old sleeping child in the head and still get off scot-free.

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2...fficer-cleared

Who says we don't have state-sanctioned violence?

Interesting the story neglects to add that Aiyana's father Charles Jones was also found guilty of second degree murder for supplying the gun the uncle used to kill a 17 year old for disrespecting him. The uncle's argument that supplying him with a gun was akin to giving an arsonist a match further indicts him.

The officers needed to come heavy because the guys they were going after were heavy. It's sad and unfortunate that a 7-year-old ended up dying but the police didn't create the situation, her father and uncle did. Aiyana's death was an obvious accident, so no one got off scot-free, although the article neglected to say what the father's sentence was. It's too common a name for me to determine via court and prison records.

Except of the course the suspect was seen coming and going from the house for hours before the raid, and the cops had ample opportunity to arrest him then. But they wanted to show off their new toys for a reality show, so they opted for a completely unnecessary midnight raid that started with a flash bang grenade, rather than just knocking on the door. The police absolutely created this situation through inept police work. And they got away with it. And they will again.

Because a reporter in London says so?

If you read the article written in Detroit and the reader comments that follow, there were two suspects, the uncle AND the father and two separate search warrants were conducted simultaneously on the two-flat, I'm pretty sure so as to secure the arrest of both and prevent either from fleeing after being tipped off. Wee hour raids are designed to maximize surprise as are the flash grenades giving police an advantage over these murderers. Sorry the actual facts doesn't back up the story written abroad but don't let the facts get in the way of a good police bashing.

Bottom Line: Had the uncle and father not been cold blooded murderers the police would have never come a knockin.

I agree Dell, it is tragic that a young child paid for the sins of the family with her life. There are certainly far too many examples of heavy handed police raids but this is a case where criminals have only themselves to blame.
