What you should have taken away is that today we are not breeding distance horses and all horses can get 1 1/4 some just get there slower than others. If they are going to be able to win with last quarters of 26.3 then breeding is not going to count.
Here are the fractions from Saturday.
TIME :23 1/5, :47 1/5, 1:11 1/5, 1:36 2/5, 2:03

Lets end talk of AP being the next super horse to rival Secretariat.

Check out Secretariat's Derby fractions:

:23 2/5, :47 2/5, 1:11 4/5, 1:36 1/5, 1:59 2/5

After a mile Secretariat was sitting 1/2 off the pace so he basically would have been just ahead of the Sat bunch before turning on the jets and romping by 20.

Comparing any horse to Secretariat is a waste of time, the question is can AP win the triple Crown? His finish in the Derby was workmanlike but nothing more. He was extremely wide on the turn and showed his class by outrunning two good horses in the stretch but a 105 Beyer doesn't impress me. I'll get excited if he wins the Preakness.

Yeah, I did read that the track conditions Saturday were exactly the same as they were that day in 1973.

Also, AP was making only his sixth lifetime start, and it was really the first time he had to exert himself.

While his win wasn't as impressive as I was expecting, it's very possible he got something out of the race and could move forward.

It seemed being on the rail was not where you wanted to be in the race...it was tiring, when looking at Dortmund, Mubtaahij, and Carpe Diem and how they handled it.
