Default Riding High Again-Richard Migliore's Career is Flourishing After Retirement

Really nice article.

Saratoga Living Magazine | Riding High Again - Richard Migliore's Career is Flourishing After Retirement

Quote:
“I do enjoy the TV work and hopefully educating viewers, too. I’d like people to maybe look at things from a different perspective than they ever have before,” he says. “But I would like in some way to make a huge difference in this industry. Horses and racing have given me everything good in my life. Obviously, the material things, but also I met my wife through horses and racing and my family stems from horses and racing. I hope that at some stage I land in a spot where I can make a profound, positive impact on the game.”
I daresay he already has.

Charlie Hayward, then the NYRA president and CEO, and Amy Zimmerman, the executive producer at HRTV, had already figured out where Migliore should be headed. Hayward, now the publisher of Thoroughbred Racing Commentary, was moved by the way Migliore handled himself as he announced his retirement.

“Richie stood up with no notes, no nothing, and gave one of the more poignant, well-put-together talks that I’ve ever heard anyone make about his passion for the game, the people, the horses,” Hayward says. “It was just brilliant.”
THE best, most well articulated retirement announcement I've ever heard, in spite of the emotion of the moment.

Mig was a great rider but is even better as a TV analyst. He's terrific.

Default only 5 6 hoss fields saturday !

with a 2 length lead at the eighth pole, he was poetry in motion. i loved his rhythmic use of the stick. you weren't gonna pass him. He was a good solid race rider.

Mig earned plenty of money and worked darn hard at his craft won a ton of races and did something he loved to do until it almost killed him. I wish I was betting on him these days versus the grab and choke clan New York has attracted

You're wrong and even though riding careers can't be strictly defined by numbers, his tremendous ability and level of accomplishment is easily backed up by simple statistics alone. Considering the huge amount of time he lost to very serious injuries, there's no way to estimate what his final resume would look like had he been healthier for a greater period.

I never said he was bad. He just wasnt a standout. Injuries, family issues and personal problems plague almost every jockey and despite these setbacks, some have had stellar careers. Migliore had his moments and is a great personality on TV. However Jerry Bailey is better as a jockey and commentator

Jerry Bailey is an ALL TIME GREAT there are 10"s of thousands of jocks who couldnt shine Mig's boots.. BUT even MIG wouldn't suggest he was equal to the legend of Bailey

I very strongly disagree that Bailey is a better commentator.

I had forgot he rode some of them mentioned. Kind of hard to believe he didn't pick up a BC winner in there, but for most of his career it was limited to one day. 4,000+ wins on major circuits is not chopped liver, plus 160 million in purses. I seem to remember some injuries where he was out a long time.
