Pimlico Friday May 20th
Race 1:
#8 Touch and Smile: Hung last but the winner of that comes back in the Miss Preakness. Ward hits at a high clip at PIM, albeit not with 3yos nor fillies in dirt sprints. #1 Tiz Emily and Jill #7 Ring Knocker #6 Anna Rae Race 2: #4 Do What I Say: Won impressively trying the turf. Doesn't face a tough field. #14 Summer Frock: Taking a flyer and using this one. Sire was a turf sprinter and the turf debut wasn't bad considering the pace collapsed. #11 Bioterp #2 Wolfie #15 has had her chances and I'll use underneath. Race 3: #8 Fantastic Style: Much the one to beat, but her worst race did come out of SoCal... #3 Flattering Bea: Has run well on this day previously. Not ready for the comeback and check the gate bullet. #2 Disco Chick #1 Sweetrayofsunshine is SCR... Race 4: #11 Jolity: 50-1 ML will probably run last, but this race is crying out for a bomb. Went off as the fav on debut against Channel Regata, but her lone two turf runs came without Lasix. No coincidence she ran much better once adding it. 6f first time for the barn isn't hard to ignore. By Kitten's Joy and the dam won on the grass twice, including a stakes at a mile. Most likely a waste of my cash but could throw 13 darts here and still not land on the winner. #7 Leafy Shade: If she's improved from 2 to 3 she's quite dangerous. #2 Liatris #9 Maryland Mystique Race 5: #1 Tekton: Clearly doesn't like Oaklawn and last out he got roughed at the start before chasing a wicked pace. His two-turn races outside of Arkansas have been his best by far, including a 10 length romp over this course and distance. #9 Tale of Life: Chased this one a few times on the turf to end '15. Showed he can handle the dirt and his figures are highest. #7 Dynamic Strike: Has run well at PIM before, including a wire job of a N3X last year. #2 Mythos is SCR... #4 The Sandman Race 6: #4 Sunnysammi: A neck behind Forest Funds who has run rings around quite a few others in this field. Castellano brings a short price. #8 Awake the Day: Faded in his last on a rainy day so I can excuse that---she ran extremely poor on the soft in October. Rough trip with the bug two back and 4yo seems to be improving with age. Has run huge at big odds previously and looks to sit right behind my top pick. Can pounce if good enough. #3 See What Happens #7 Deliver Me Race 7: #1 Page McKenney is SCR... #5 Idolo Porteno: Nothing wrong with American debut and some runners just don't like Keeneland's quirky turf. #7 Noble Bird: They just need to let him roll and stalk the outside runner. Would be surprised to see him run well if rated. Possible just a KY horse as well. #4 Golden Glint Race 8: #6 Big Guy Ian: Worth a shot at that ML price. Finally put it together before the extended break and got cooked on multi-track record day when returning. Will benefit greatly from that and has the speed to hold inside position. #7 Rocket Heat: Was all over this one last time but with such a giant career-best he may be vulnerable to bounce returning in two weeks. He had a similar turnaround at DMR and while he was beaten by an Aussie sprinter, he was in a three-way photo with two average runners. #2 Ben's Cat: This is his race, but he's getting up there with age and looked to have lost a slight step even last year. #5 Night Officer Race 9: #10 Tiger Ride is SCR... #9 Super Majesty: Possibly she just doesn't like the pastures in Lexington? Blanket finish in lone route attempt suggests it wasn't a great field but she did battle back quite gamely that day. Dam was a SW router in the Pacific NW and gets the upgrade to Geroux. #5 Ahh Chocolate #1 Theogony #8 Joint Return Race 10: #11 Gone Away: Don't buy the soft track excuses because she ran quite well on both occasions...checked hard late on debut and last out was a head bob from being 2nd. Impressive maiden win and stepped up well in the subsequent G3. #10 La Piba: 2 for 3 in turf routes with the lone loss coming when Jack Gilligan (0 for 86 @ KEE) was up. Strong win when back in 10 days an another step forward gives her a longshot chance. #4 Spinamiss: Race two back is more than good enough here but had no excuses last time and not a fan of that slow work as a final prep for this. #8 Koala Queen Race 11: #5 Go Maggie Go: 4th in the Oaks in her third career start is quite the feat. Since the new millennium no Oaks contestant has won this race but the sample is limited---quite a few won in the 90s. #9 Midnight On Oconee: Something had to be amiss last out, the race was so bad. Two back she ran huge given the pace scenario and if she can return to that form she represents great value, especially with not much other speed here. #3 Land Over Sea: O'Neill is only 1/17 (3 ITM) wheeling them back within 15 days in a Graded race, but he only had one runner under 4-1, I'll Have Another. #7 Downdraft: Much to prove, but as expected Lasix and shades severely improved her. Given no chance when a long last behind a tortoise pace yet flew home and galloped out strongly. Improving half to Neck 'n Neck crushed them last out and comes in ready off a bullet. Race 12: #2 Phlash Phelps #10 Loves Last Chance #11 Metaboss #1 Helm #16 Chiltern Street Race 13: #9 Banree: Getting back to a dirt sprint suits, as does the potential pace set up. Has enough tactical speed to sit close if they don't fly early. #5 Quick Release: Looked beaten but showed heart and maturity coming right back. Castellano has the hands to rate her if necessary. #8 R Girls a Charmer: Went way too quick last out and is fitter for this. Double bullets suggest she's ready for the cutback to 6f. #1 She's All Ready Race 14: #10 Soup d'Coupe #11 Cruise More #4 Guts and Glory #6 Outofthedepths $0.60 Early Pick Five Race 2: 2, 4, 11, 14 Race 3: 3, 8 Race 4: 2, 7, 11, 16 Race 5: 1, 9 Race 6: 3, 4, 8 $115.20 $0.60 Early Pick Four Race 3: 3, 8 Race 4: 2, 7, 9, 11, 16 Race 5: 1, 7, 9 Race 6: 3, 4, 8 $54.00...Cover: 8/3, 5, 10, 14, 16/1, 9/3, 4, 8 ($18.00) and 8/2, 7, 9, 11/1, 9/7, 9, 10, 12 ($19.20) = $91.20 total $0.60 Stakes Pick Four Race 8: 2, 6, 7 Race 9: 1, 5, 8, 9 Race 10: 4, 10, 11 Race 11: 3, 5, 7, 9 $115.20 $0.60 Late Pick Four Race 11: 3, 5, 7, 9 Race 12: 1, 2, 10, 11, 16 Race 13: 5, 8, 9 Race 14: 4, 10, 11 $108.00 Good luck! $1 Pick 4 2 / 5 / 11 / 5 (4 of 4) $780.05 = $468.03 for $0.60 Thanks Pants and ADJMK. Race 9 and 10 were especially kind to me. Would have been nicer if the 5 held on or the 7 got up in the Miss Preakness but overall I can't complain! |
