Credit to Santa Anita......
Let's be honest here, the last few times Santa Anita hosted the Breeders Cup there was a tremendous inside speed bias.......it really wasn't fair.
But they got it right today,it was kind of the opposite. In the dirt races that weren't 14 furlongs, the winning horse made a wide sweeping move. The exception of course was the Distaff where Beholder and Songbird were right next to each other before the 1/4 Pole(mid second turn or so)for one of the great throw downs in history. The real tell was the parade of favorites that were passed in the stretch while running on the inside portion of the track. Simply put.......it was a good thing to be closing wide on the dirt today at Santa Anita. I sure hope the dirt course plays the same way tomorrow.......that is unless I have an inside speed horse...... |
