![]() I have seen some unusual payoffs but the double payoff at Delaware Park on July 6, 2017 is one of the strangest.
In race 2, former jockey Abel Castellano first time as a trainer won with Mom’s a Cougar. Mom’s a Cougar went off at 11.2 to 1. In race 3, Abel had another runner Armonico that finished last beaten 17 lengths in a 7 horse field. Armonico was second choice at 2.70 to 1. The probable double payoff was 41 to 1. Race 3 won by Balistico owned and trained by Ruben Monjes. Balistico went off at 6.20 to 1. The parlay for $1 paid $87. (11.2 +1 X 6.2 + 12.2) However, the daily double paid 10.1 to 1. The double pool was $8637 so after 19% takeout, $692 was bet on the winning combination. Both winners trained at Fair Hill so it looks like the worst kept secret was to play the double and not each horse to win. Lesson learned……..Beware betting in small pools.
