Ruff, congrats on your win at Tampa Bay Downs.
If I were making the choice, I would lean very heavily toward Oaklawn Park and add only the horribly named Jeff Ruby Steaks (previously called the Spiral, previously called the Gallery Furniture.com, previously called the Lanes End, previously called the Jim Beam, previously called the Jim Beam Spiral, originally called the Spiral, and I've probably left out a couple of others) from Turfway Park. I've always felt that the quality of racing at Oaklawn is vastly superior to that at Turfway; I'm sure that more Derby contenders will emerge from the Rebel than from the Jeff Ruby with horsemen preferring running a prep on the dirt rather than on the synthetic surface of Turfway. In addition, both the Azeri and the Essex at Oaklawn are quality races. The Rushaway is a two turn stakes race for 3 year old colts, but with a purse of only $75K I don't think it is really a prep for anything other than the Lexington. That's my 2 cents' worth. Spend it well. |

The "Fount" Runneth Over!
WOW JOLY.....
What A Fount of Information You Are! I did not realize that the Spiral was also the Jim Beam And All those other horrible names! Thank you for the quick reply and I was leaning in Oaklawn direction It will be interesting to see what other insights may be offered |

Since your considering the Rebel and Spiral I have no real preference. If you do choose Oaklawn I would not add the Rushaway. As Joly stated, Congrats on
your points win Ruffian.

Curiouser And Curiouser
Why does DRF STAKES list SPIRAL as
= TURFWAY PARK ==> JACK Cincinnati Casino Spiral S.(Grade 3) <==== $200,000.00; 3 Year Olds 1 1/8 Miles *** BUT EQUIBASE LISTS IT AS ==> **Race 10 $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks S. 1 1/8 Miles ANYONE KNOW HOW THE SAME RACE CAN BE CALLED 2 DIFFERENT NAMES |

My thought is that if we don't go to Turfway this week, we ain't going this year.
Put another way, I'm old enough to be nostalgic about The Jim Beam Stakes. But please know this: I'm playing wherever we go! P.S. I enjoyed retracing all the names of the race that kept Turfway in the conversation in years gone by, JolyB. |
