Default Venue for July 28 Contest

While Saratoga has been called the August Place To Be, it can also be the July Place To Be. Anyway, that's where we are going to be this Saturday, with a card of racing that includes the Jim Dandy, the Alfred G. Vanderbilt, the Amsterdam and the Bowling Green. If that's not a grand slam, I don't know what is.

First post will be at 1:00 PM Eastern. Hope to see you all there.

To get you into the right frame of mind, and to obtain lots of interesting handicapping morsels, may I recommend the Saratoga Special, available online from Thursday through Sunday.

The previews of major stakes races are very informative, and the Barn Tours provide wonderful insights into trainer's intentions about specific horses. It's the first thing I read over morning coffee during the season.

here's a link; enjoy:

If no one has any strong objections (such as wanting to play the NYRA Bets Pick 5), I'd like to end our contest with Race 10 (The Jim Dandy). That race goes off at 6:18 and should be a good capstone for a full day of racing, letting us finish up with 4 consecutive graded stakes.

YOU PROBABLY COULD SEE THIS COMIN.

YES I WOULD LIKE R11 INCLUDED ~ BUT NOT FOR THAT REASON

THERE IS A HORSE I LIKE FOR ROI

OR IS MY REQUEST JUST “WISHFUL THINKING?”

I asked to get reactions, and you gave me a fair one.

OK, we'll play the full 11 race card. Hope that your ROI horse in R11 doesn't get scratched if the race comes off of the turf. There has been a lot of rain in upstate New York this week, so much so that the steeplechase race scheduled for today was cancelled.

Please don't tell me that your ROI horse is Rahway. That is the town where the trains on the Jersey Shore line used to change engines from steam (I was just a kid) or diesel to electric for the trip into Penn Station. The trains stopped for about 10 minutes within sight of the New Jersey state prison.

I used to "ride" the Pony Express from Rahway and it would originally drop you off right at the back admission gate at Monmouth Park. In those days it was great to relax on a train and not have to fight the summer shore traffic. (and when the track cleaned me out at least I didn't need 2 quarters for the Garden State Parkway tolls....yeah it used to be a quarter at each toll back in the day)

Now my bounce.
Ok, I think I end up in the plus column in ROI. Miracle.
Then... I could have gotten much higher. If only the 5 could have gotten 1st instead of 2nd in R 9.
I know. Close but no cigar. 🤪

Be of good cheer, El Prado. In Race 9, the 5 and 2 dead heated for first. You win payoff isn't close to the 22-1 odds on the 5, but he still earned you $21.40 for each $2. That makes for a nice ROI on your $40 win bet.

2 dead heats at Saratoga yesterday. I hit both of them. What's the odds on that?
