The AP Smithwick Handicap at 2 1/16 miles is the feature today with a 20 pound spread in weights.

Sheppard has both barrels loaded with #1 Iranistan and #4 All the Way Jose. Iranistan gets in light with 143 pounds. He would have won the Kiser Novice yesterday by 20 lengths but opted for this tougher assignment. All the Way Jose was in front at Nashville in May when he fell at the 13th of 18 fences. He only has to navigate 8 fences today.

#2 Modem inherited the lead at Nashville when All the Way Jose fell and still found a way to run 2nd. With 5 2nds in his 5 US starts and 156 high weight, it looks like he will run 2nd again.

#3 Oskar Denarius gets in super light with 136 pounds and is a serious threat winning 5 of his last 7 starts in England. He has a 116 handicap rating in England and beat horses with 130 handicap ratings and fields as big as 16 horses. He has carried 154 pounds in his wins and the 136 weight will feel like a feather today.

The pace will be quick early with Iranistan, Modem, All the Way Jose and #6 Personal Start all pushing each other. With a solid pace, light weights Iranistan and Oskar Denarius have an advantage.

After redraw for 7/30, the numbers changed. #1 Iranistan is the same, changes are #3 All the Way Jose, #4 Oskar Denarius, #5 Modem.

Unfortunately on 7/25 in the Kiser, Daneking pulled up and had to be vanned off.
