![]() There are several interesting opportunities for a contest venue this coming Saturday. Aqueduct, Tampa Bay and Santa Anita all have races that offer Derby qualifying points and other stakes races. At this point I'm leaning fairly heavily toward the full card at Santa Anita for Big Cap Day. The San Felipe is only one of several major races on the undercard. I think that FoxSports Day at the Races will cover two of three of them between 5:30 and 7:00 Eastern time.
I'm waiting until entries are available, probably tomorrow, before finalizing the selection, but wanted to post my preliminary thoughts. |

![]() Sounds good to me. Neither of the Florida venues has been especially kind to me and it will be good to see what the likely Baffert entries for the KD look like.

![]() Last year we did the Aqueduct card and the Tampa Bay Derby. I guess the San Felipe came up weak with a short field? When the entries come out you will get a better feel on which track and races are the best.

![]() RQ, the early read that I have gotten is that the San Felipe may be a bit short of quantity but ought to make up for it in quality. Finding a field of 10 or 12 horses for a stakes race in Southern California seems to be a thing of the past.

![]() Entries are now available for Saturday's card. I'd like to keep it simple by playing Santa Anita, but ending our contest card after race 10, the Santa Anita Handicap.
First post will be at 11:30 AM Pacific time (2:30 PM Eastern). Acceptable? |

"SAD TO SEE" rubs me the wrong way considering that you had emailed me not long after the results were posted on Sunday night to suggest that I select an all stakes card and I had patiently explained to you why I didn't think that this Saturday's races rose to the level of importance to justify the additional time and efforts on the part of both our players and scorekeepers of playing races at three different tracks rather than selecting a single race card and playing it the way someone going to the track might do. Why would you now post such a petulant comment when the decision has already been made? As I had explained to you, a large part of my reluctance was based on the fact that the races that accrue Derby and Oaks qualifying points are in fact preps for other races that will be Derby and Oaks preps. When those Grade 1 preps run on April 4, I think that an all stakes card would be wonderful. |
