Default ROI Results 3/14 @ Oaklawn

Our weekly diversion from the stress of the real world proved profitable to two players who
combined for three winning bets. Horse racing at the moment is one of a few sports trying
to provide us with a little entertainment and win or lose I appreciate it. Or should I say "I
lose and lose and lose some more". Plenilune collects some points and finishes second by
virtue of a win bet on Taishan in the 6th which returned $140. The winner however ran away
from the field and collected $643 on two winning bets. For the third week in a row the
winner was Ruffian and as a result will be going for a four peat. Ruffian started with a place
bet on Excession in the Rebel for a $37.00 mutuel and then knocked it out of the ball park
with a $48.00 win return on Classy Beast in the finale. Congrats on the ROI win Ruff for
the third week in a row. Nicely played. You are one Classy...........................horsepicker.
Following are the unofficial results pending any objections. See you all next week at what
should be Louisiana. If anyone gets any news of a closure or postponement please post
ASAP.

WIN... Ruffian... +$543.00... R 10: #2 $14 Place $37.00 X 7... $259.00
R 11 #1 $16 Win $48.00 X 8... $384.00

PLACE... Plenilune... +$40.00... r6 $50 W #1 $5.60 X 25... $140.00

They say it's not all over 'till the fat lady sings. In this case, it may be the cat lady. Are you saying mi-mi-mi yet ma'am?

On another subject, are you under curfew up there RQ? I thought I heard on CNN that New Jersey was under curfew. Hard to imagine such draconian measures. Whole thing seems surreal.

Hey Cal. I don't think our governor called it a curfew but more like a mandatory recommendation. It goes from 8PM to 5 AM starting tonight I think. Our two racetracks and betting facilities are closed and the only way to wager is online.
Restaurants and bars can have dine in customers only until 8 tonight and then will be closed to the public. Only delivery and take out allowed.

My small town has two grocery stores. As of tomorrow I can only enter them on even days. All stores in my town have to close except for supermarkets, pharmacies, pet stores, laundry mats and the lone gas station.

I live about 8 miles outside Hot Springs in a smaller community. We have a gas station, a catfish restaurant and a Dollar General Store. I went to the Dollar General to get some dog food. It seemed to be well stocked with everything except meat and produce which they do not sell. I guess we are better off than some places. The cray-cray hasn't quite come to our neighborhood yet, but it may, if they decide to lock down everything and keep us in our houses for awhile. That will really make everybody want to raid the stores.

yes our Magical Colorado Cat Lady has a trunk full of 8-balls, magic lamps, Ouija Boards and magic potions as well. I'm not sure she uses a Dart Board, which I get out more often than not.

Whatever it is, if she played real money, she'd be rolling in the chips, and I don't mean Potato chips. Ruffian has the long shot NACK for sure. Nice job Ruff!!!

With all of the concerns about the coronavirus, we are hearing about more and more cancellations and postponements. Yesterday it was Turf Paradise, Sunland Park, Parx and Laurel. Today it was the Keeneland meeting. Tomorrow morning there will be a press conference about the timing of the Kentucky Derby, with the expectation that it will be rescheduled for early September.

All of that suggests that we may have difficulty continuing our weekly contests much longer. I wanted to take a moment and say that if that happens I would hope that all of our small group of handicappers will still keep visiting this site to post comments, let everyone know how you are coping, share stories or if necessary, just to howl at the moon.

Things may get very difficult, but even with social distancing we are still all in this together, and with any luck we can all get through this together.

It would be interesting to know what the effect was of mostly having just internet only wagering at Oaklawn this past weekend. I used to know how to find this and can't remember how I did it. Maybe it was in the local paper which I no longer get or in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette which I don't get either. Had to have hurt their total handle, I imagine, but would like to know how much. Also would like to know how having the KD in September would effect the rest of the Triple Crown and the Breeder's Cup?

If you sing like you play horses ma'am, I'm sure it's some very sweet music and I have looked at your web page. Very interesting stuff.

Cal, I went to the full charts at Equibase and found the following, for what it is worth. Handle as listed as $242,889 [I guess the owners who were on track placed a few bets]. The off track handle was $9,876,472. I don't know where I could learn the total handle of Rebel days in previous days. My perception is that Oaklawn would lose more of its total handle by running without live fans than, say, Aqueduct might since OKL has much larger crowds who tend to bet with both fists.

I share your question about the rest of the TC and the BC. Churchill seems to be actin like the 800 pound gorilla it is by setting the Derby date and letting everyone else figure out how to dovetail into that schedule. In fairness, there may be discussions occurring behind the scenes on these precise topics.

Thanks. I knew there was a way to do it. As for the $242k, there is a small area in the casino that has some self-service machines. I imagine the bettors there were out of town folks that didn't have the Oaklawn Anywhere Account wagering set up or no other internet wagering account which seems foolish to me, if you are serious at all about playing horses.
