8/13: Saratoga Steeplechase Race 1 - Rating Handicap

Rescheduled race from last week has a 130 or less ratings handicap going 4 turns over 8 fences.

There are several with their best races in the rear view mirror and I’m not sure why they are returning today. Only 4 of 9 runners finished their last race. Since there are only 9 jockeys available to ride, Danielle Hodsdon comes out of retirement to ride #5 Show Court.

There is no way to sugar coat the fact that this is a bad race. As handicapping analyst Andy Serling likes to say, bad horses win bad races. Keep this in mind as you review the contenders.

Irv Naylor has his best chance so far this meet to get his Saratoga win this year with #1 Elucidation or #1A Must See The Doc. Both managed to finish their last race and get relatively light weight assignments.

#6 New Member has the dynamic duo of jockey Mike Mitchell and trainer Jack Fisher and has run well at Saratoga in the past but has to tote 157 pounds.

#4 Iranistan for Sheppard likes Saratoga, will show early speed, and may be able to hold on but must tote 153 pounds.

#7 Mutasaawy has above average flat track speed and gets a weight break down to 149 pounds after his last race.

Big question mark about who will finish this race makes underneath exotic wagering tough.
