![]() Shortly after the race it was announced that he was not adversely affected by the fall and was perfectly OK.
The assistant trainer whom he fell on, however, had a fractured wrist. |

![]() Yes, DRF saying he will likely start in the Preakness. I thought during the broadcast they said he hit his head, but DRF says he fell on his side which I guess could be bad too for a thousand pound plus animal, but those head blows are the ones that sometimes kill them so I'm glad to hear he is alright.

![]() In hindsight, the folks who paid something like $206 per share for an interest in Authentic may have made a decent investment after all; in addition to having bragging rights to "owning a Derby winner"
I wonder if that will encourage more opportunities for a micro investment in racehorses? |

![]() I don't believe that distributions of shares of purses get made to partners right away. As you point out, there are lots of expenses to pay so they might have to wait for a year end accounting to determine whether distributions get made and if so how much.
Because of the tiers of partnership, the micro investors must await a distribution by manager of the owning partnership to its partners and then the distribution by the myracehorse.com partnership to them. Probably lots of administrative fees get taken out at level also. Their best hope for any real money could come from a future sale of breeding rights. When I first read about this sale of micro interests, I did the math and determined that their investment of $206 for a 0.001 % interest [i.e. 1 share of the 12,500 shares sold by myracehorse.com of their 12.5% interest in Authentic] would translate to a valuation of slightly over $20 million for the horse. So, they mostly have bragging rights with some chance of getting at least some of their original investment back. That's my take on it anyway. |

![]() They don't call it the Sport of Kings for nothing. You have to be a king or at least a merchant prince to do it, but I imagine not even all of them make money at it. You sometimes read about rich folks spending millions to get a derby winner, but they never do.

I would love to invest in real life. Maybe one day I will be able to afford to do it. But for a $206 investment in Authentic I'd take bragging rights and wouldn't give a fig of ROI. What a thrilling race to win! |

![]() I will echo what Plenilune said. I guess her and I hit the Oaks Derby double since in the same league I own Authentic. A first Derby win for me and I like it! It's always going to be about having "fun".

![]() I doubt that anyone here is all that interested in the allure of making a profit. If that was the case for me, then I have failed miserably. My questions about sharing the profits of winning the Derby with the micro investors was one of intellectual curiosity and not meant to condemn anyone that participates in this sort of thing. I am aware that people like to immerse themselves in something that they enjoy and that this is just one more way to do that.
