Belmont Derby
It's an interesting nomination list for this race.
Bill Mott is now the new trainer of Du Jour, who won well in the American Turf at Churchill Downs on Derby Day. Natalie Baffert still part owner of the horse. More interestingly, Coolmore has just one nomination and it is their beaten Derby favorite Bolshoi Ballet. Not sure if it is a good sign or a bad sign that he targets this race instead of trying to regroup in Europe. Usually they send over their second stringers or unheralded types, like Godolphin is doing with Secret Protector. Also, a Japanese-owned and trained French-bred colt (Tokyo Gold) is nominated, having won the Italian Derby. Preakness winner Rombauer is nominated, too, and would be the first US classic winner to run in the race. But even more interesting is that Chad Brown does not have a horse nominated to the race. |
