Default ROI Results 7/31 @ Saratoga

Horseracing giveth and horseracing taketh away. Saratoga on Saturday proved quite a challenge
for most of the Call To Post ROI players. Three players cashed a ticket but only two managed to
post a profit. Digger gets second place by cashing a ticket in race 7 worth $150 on a horse he
had a High Opinion on. And that was as close as anyone could come to Runaway Ruffian. In
race two Ruff played the longshot Gateway Guardian. While it wasn't a Lexitonian payout not
even Ruffian could argue with a sweet $49.40 payout. Last week Ruff had a $12 winner with a
12-1 morning line and this week a $49 winner with a 12-1 morning line. Some times you get
taken and other times you get given. Congrats on a nice pick this week Ruff. You giveth us
all a thrashing at the Spa. Nicely played. Following are the unofficial results pending a recall
from the starter. See you all next week.

WIN... Ruffian... +$591.60... Race 2 #4 = $28 Win $49.40 X 14... $691.60

PLACE... Digger... +$50.00... Race 7 7 ( show $100 ) $3.00 X 50... $150.00

Don Guido -$20.25 R 9: $15 EX 5w/1,2,4 $3.25 X 15... $48.75

Joly B -$99.00

Roamin -$100.00

Real Quiet -$100.00

Cal828 -$100.00

Indian Hemp -$100.00

NJ Stinks -$100.00

Great comment RQ. As horseplayers we are often so fixated on our picks and results that we forget how frequently outcomes are affected by pure luck and how that luck tends to even out. We whine when our 12-1 shot gets bet down to 6-1 or less but happily run to the window and accept the payout as a matter of course when the real odds are double the morning line. We remember the tough beats for years but ignore the times when the stewards' decision went our way even if it probably shouldn't have. I'm as guilty of that as anyone.

I have heard it said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I think that is right in horse playing. If you approach it as a logical thing, it will likely be rare that you ever hit the long shots that pay off because they often aren't logical or at least as logical as other plays in a given field, but be that as it may, I still prefer picks with some logic behind them to random picks, but maybe that's where my play comes crashing down. At any rate, I continue to try to make the illogical logical.
