![]() Well, my post mortem on the BC is that, I'm guessing that none of us made our fortune, but it was still a great day of racing. I don't think there were many absolute blow-outs. Most of the races seemed to be pretty close at the finish by a nose or a neck or at most a couple of lengths. I'm always hoping that I learned something. Not sure what I learned this year, but maybe it was that I should play a few more horizontal bets in the future. I did hit one of these, but still could have played it better. That always seems to be the case. Whatever you do, you could have done it better. Anyway, my final analysis is that it was still a thoroughly enjoyable day even though the handicapping of it reminded me of that old commercial on TV in which they put the egg in the frying pan and a voice says "this is your brain on drugs."

![]() Commenting on the BC without mentioning the last race debacle on Friday brings to mind the question, "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" But I'll try.
We had two very good days of racing with a perfect mix of extremely formful performances and total headscratchers. The races had more of an international component that I had expected, with both the two Japanese wins and the three turf wins by Godolphin runners. That bodes well for future BC participation. I managed to cash a few tickets, although it would have been much more profitable if Jackie's Warrior had not gotten caught up in a suicidal pace battle. Cal, I share your feeling of overload and mental exhaustion. I love the BC races but I'm glad they only come around once a year. |

Right, I'm ready to recharge my brain and start anew. I guess we come back on 11/20? I did pretty terrible this year. So much more to it than handicapping well. Also, have to know what bets are best to play into your strengths and what size bets are best. Hopefully, I'll come up with a new strategy. Obviously, I'm no great player using exactas and tris so time to try something different. At least I'll try that for awhile and if it doesn't work, I'll retreat back to the exactas and tris. ![]() |

BTW, it was a very interesting BC but somewhat BLAH to me not to have a been into it enough all year to have A horse, or two or three to really route for. Truly the Euros and Japan horses kinda stole the show. I t was turly the most International feeling BC I've seen. And thats what the Breeders Cup is really all about.

You're right about that, but I don't know whether that's a good thing or not. Might get more Japanese participation now that there's been some success for their runners, but it was pretty hard to pick that winner in the Distaff with so little info in the PPs unless maybe a person followed the international races closely. For me to hit that one would have just been a shot in the dark. The winner of the mile was a way easier pick in that you could tell by the quality of that ones races that it was a contender. You are right too, it was nice to win the points contest last year, but winning that contest doesn't segue over to a win in the ROI so I'll just continue to look for the right formula to do that. May never find it, but I am persistent, if nothing else. Maybe its a matter of tweaking what I already do. Or maybe not. ![]() Last edited by cal828 : 11-10-2021 at 02:32 PM. |
