Default ROI Results 2/4 @ Gulfstream

After a bad last week in January things improved a little on our return to Gulfstream and the
Holy Bull card. I had the pleasure of seeing him run in the Haskell many years ago. This week
we cashed 7 tickets. Nothing big but all four payout slots were filled. Two adages come to mind.
When Joly B warns me of something, "Be afraid, be very afraid". I did not nor do I still have a clue
how to figure out consolation pick 5's. The figures are from JB who somehow can go through all
the permutations. The second is "You can't see the forest for the trees". I couldn't for the life of
me figure out Indian Hemps payout. I couldn't see the big picture because I was focusing on
the situation. Turns out that was an easy issue on second glance (with an assist from JB).
Anyway I hope these results don't have too many errors but I'm not holding my breath. If
anything is incorrect or improbable let me know and I'll get "the team" on it. If there are any
suggestions or shortcuts let me know. Anyway, for now, Digger takes the super spot with a
winning ticket in race 4. Zippy takes the show spot with exacta's in races 1 and 11 both of
which were pretty good prices. Zip is also our overall ROI leader this year. He and Cruzan are
the only two players still showing a profit in 2023. JolyB takes second place by hitting the late
pick 5 and getting 10 $3.00 consolation tickets worth a $31.50 profit on the day. The win at
Gulfstream goes to Real Quiet who had all 4 of his key horses win and managed to get 2
exacta's in races 4 and 6 for a profit of $70. Following are the unofficial results pending a
booth review. Please let me know of any errors or ommisions. See you all on the "trail"
next Saturday.

As I was trying to figure out how many of the 192 wagers on my ticket had 4 out of 5 winners and was therefore eligible for the consolation payout, I realized how fortunate players at the track or OTB or on an advanced wagering platform played from home and hit such a wager are to be able to simply have the machine spit out a voucher with all of the winnings computed.

I ended up with 10 conso payoffs in addition to the actual pick 5 on a 2x2x3x4x4 ticket. And thank goodness for them also, since without them I would have bet $96 and gotten an embarrassingly small payoff of $97.50 on a winning pick 5. And that was with the second choice winning the final leg. If the favorite had won the payoff would have been even smaller.

Indian Hemp had a very interesting approach to the late pick 5 and almost carried the day. He structured a 1x2xALLxAllx1 ticket and had winners in each of the first 4 legs. I think that if his pick had won the final leg he would have had 17 consolation payoffs in addition to the pick 5 winnings. That would have been a real doozey to compute by hand.

Congrats on your win RQ, and I'm sorry to have put you to such travail with by eccentric wagers. But, I've long maintained that the ROI is a superb way to experiment and learn about various wagering techniques.
