This Saturday Ruffian will be taking us to what she calls her favorite track, the Fair Grounds, for a card that features the Risen Star Stakes, a race with 50 Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the winner and the key prep for the Louisiana Derby. We will be playing the full card of 14 races. Get ready for a very long day of racing. 6 of the first 9 races are for maidens, but the final five are significant stakes races with competitive fields.

Please have your selections for the points contest posted not later than 12:00 Noon Central time, the scheduled post time for the first race. The Risen Star will be the finale, with a scheduled post of 6:30 PM Central.

I say count them. Maybe Don can over rule the rule.

Digger, I think we should follow our longstanding rule that races with fewer than 5 horses don't count for the points contest (of course, they may still be used for ROI). It is possible that some of our players have relied on this rule and did not go back to modify their picks when races 2 and 13 were scratched down to fields of 4. Those players might have played differently. If we want to discuss a change of that rule for future contests, that should be a fair conversation, but I disagree with making a rule change after contestants have made their posts and the picks are locked.

Agree that rule changes need open discussion (with a favorable majority to be changed) and should only happen before the start of a new racing year, therefore, races with less than 5 horses will not be counted in the Points Contest for this year anway. In my book, it's much akin to shooting fish in a barrel.
