Default Street sense to tampa bay derby?

From today's TDN

STREET SENSE LIKELY FOR TAMPA BAY DERBY
Eclipse Awardwinning two-year-old Street Sense (Street Cry {Ire}), unraced since his impressive victory in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Nov. 4, is increasingly likely to reappear in the GIII Tampa Bay Derby Mar. 17. The news comes on the heels of a strong five-furlong move turned in by the champ Tuesday, when he covered the distance in 1:00.21, with a final quarter mile in :22.62. “He's been building up to this all winter, and this is why we brought [jockey] Calvin [Borel] down here this morning,” trainer Carl Nafzger told Daily Racing Form. “I wanted him to finish up strong
and that's exactly what he did. This work really moved us up a long way.” He continued, “At the moment the timing is good for the Tampa Bay Derby. That gives us almost four weeks to adjust if necessary. Right now I'm not as interested in where he finishes in his first start back as how he finishes. Although when we get to the Blue Grass [GI, Keeneland, Apr. 14], he's got to be there even if he doesn't win.”

I have to say that I am still not sold on the idea that there is nothing wrong with this horse despite his nice work the other day...it would be nice to see him race one of these days...

I do not see him winning the Kentucky Derby, either. He had an enormous advantage at Churchill on BC day.

Street Sense looked impressive in a couple races leading up to the BC race.
I believed in the bias that day, but don't think it was a complete fluke.

Although I'm still skeptical that everything is OK.
Maybe they believe in the BC juy jinx and just want to get to the derby with the least amount of anxiety.
Still, with a 4+ month layoff, Any Given Saturday should roll over him in the Tampa Bay Derby.

i like him, and i like this spot.. any given saturday is a good horse but i think street sense is better, and i like how they are willing to take him on first off the layoff. im sure there are not alot of ppl lining up to take on any given saturday right now

I think your first sentence sums it up.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with Street Sense. they don't care how he fares against AGS at TB and will only let him run a half mile anyway. Fall off this bandwagon at your own risk.

I believe you're wrong. I have heard that he's gone "sour" and isn't training well. I highly doubt that the colt would have been off this long if there wasn't SOMETHING going on with him.

i disagree... very talented horse, bc race was not as fluky as one might think he was very consistent up to that race and then put it all together

i am very good friends with ian wilkes and i can assure you cajun that this horse is doing GREAT...you can ask anyone who was with us at PM Tuesday and saw the work if he is "sour"...that is ridiculous. this is no ordinary horse and therefore needs no ordinary course to the first Saturday in May.

Highly doubt he's in the gate in May.
