Default Hank S and the Red Sox

Hanky S bashes the Sox. A little added spice to jump start the 2008 season.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3271124

"Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans.

"The defending World Series champions have "a lot of talent, and [have] done very well the past few years, but let me put it this way: I don't think [they] wanted to play us in the ALCS," Hal Steinbrenner said. "So I will concede nothing. I think we're better than [them]."

GO SOX!!!

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Bronx Zoo is going to be back in buisness soon?

The best was in the BoSox-ChIsox playoffs in '05..Game 2 at Comiskey when the Red Sox 2nd baseman let a sure DP go through his legs and that led to a Iguchi homer..Berman doing play by play was positively stoic in his commentary. Then an inning before or after, Manny launched one and he almost fell out of the booth and was beside himself. That did it for me

I know hickory and the Yankee minions will hate this but they are a team with lots of declining (aging) players and pitchers that are a bit too inexperienced to get them through. I am a little worried that Cashman wont be fired and they may actually get through this year without killing Hughes, Chamberlain and Kennedy. Girardi left the Marlins staff in shambles and will kill these guys without Cashman watching over his shoulder. Damon, Giambi, Matsui and Abreu are all in decline, Posada almost has to regress, Mariano has slipped the last 2 years, the bullpen is still shaky outside of Joba, the right side of the infield is like Swiss cheese when Giambi plays 1st. Obviously ARod and Jeter are solid but they dont really have an ace like Cleveland, Boston, Detroit and the Angels (yes Scuds Lackey) and as soon as the pitchers get touched up a little Hank will go crazy and blame Cashman for not getting Santana. It will be fun to watch.

I'm still pissed about how they handled the Torre situation, with that said though...I tend to agree that this year won't be quite like the past 12 when Torre was at the helm. He knows how to be in charge of players, Girardi won't be there long if he f*cks up. Once the old man is gone, his kids will sell the team and we'll be back to the "65 thru 73" era in the Bronx.

.....but, I still hate the "Sox"!

I don't think that Cashman is making the decisions again. It is like the old days when George was making the moves. This is Hal's team (and while I am sure that Cashman didn't want to trade the kids for Santana), and if he wanted him that bad then they would have gotten him.

Though we never really know, my take was that Hank wanted to do the deal yet was talked out of it by Cashman. If Santana blows up I'm sure hank will take the bows and say what a smart guys he is for not doing the deal. However if Santana goes 20-7, the Mets go to the WS and the Yankees miss the playoffs or get eliminated early I can see Hank blaming Cashman for not getting him. I dont think Cashman is calling the shots but they do listen to him. For now.

I really think that the Yanks were only after Santana because they couldn't afford for the Red Sox to get him. Look at what the Twins ended up getting from the Mets. If the Yanks wanted him that badly I am sure that they could have given the Twinkies a better package then the Mets did. Kennedy, Melky and another prospect might have got it done. But with the Bosox pulling out, the Yanks could afford to take a chance with the kids. I would like to know who's idea it was to give Posada all that money.

By the way, Blasted is the backpage headline in the NY Daily News and here's a story mentioning the dropping velocity of Santana's fastball. All this from the first 2 innings of his first spring training game.

WELCOME TO NY JOHAN.
