Default World Record for a mile on Turf @ Monmouth?

Mandurah a very ordinary horse does a 1:31:1 for the mile on Turf at Monmouth 9th today. Let's see if that stays, or they re-time the race

The 11th race just produced a course record on the grass too, just not a world record.

Straight start record is 1:39... just missed it at 1:39 2/5. Announcer was wrong...

I tried to hand time the 9th race but it's tough to see where the starting point it.

Ah, thanks phil -- hosting a chat and didn't have time to go verify, just took his word for it

Today's course rating is "hard" . . . 'nuff said.

When was the last time you had rain at the Shore? Couple weeks now?

It absolutely poured here on memorial day for a little bit - we've had rain, but only in short spurts.

Does anyone know if there is an irrigation/watering system for Monmouth's grass track? It was re-done in 2006, but their website doesn't state whether or not.

If so, it should have been used. If not, they should have watered it using water trucks. It was flat out irresponsible for them to run on a course that was listed as "hard". I'd be curious to know how many horses came out of their races with messed up shins.

I am pretty sure Monmouth has sprinklers for the turf though they always seem to have trouble with it every year.

Older horses wont have messed up shins, more likely chips and fractures, aka a whole lot worse stuff

Hard to believe it is harder than some of the turf courses out West.

True. Thanks for your insight.

I think the unnecessary risk for injury by running on this type of ground will have been overlooked.

If the magic juice from the Meadowlands has worked its way to Monmouth, forget about talking about irrigation. IMO NJ is not equipped to find this new super drug and you will see some monster miles coming up this summer if they have "LOUIES MAGIC JUICE" in the T-breds.
