Default Deshawn Parker

Was involved in a big 5 horse spill at MNR yesterday and took off the rest of his mounts.

http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseD...00706&raceNo=5

His agent just told me he will be out a few weeks.

This has the look of developing into the lamest $10,000 beat I've ever had.

Everything was lining up great for winning Derby Dreamer - my double dippers all did exactly what I wanted, I didn't use Cozi Rosie on 3 entries. my Gr 1's did well - and the jewel of it all was that Deshawn Parker - was going to ride 7 days a week and easily outscore - probably even double up guys like Gomez, Johnny V, Bejarano. ... and no one was using Deshawn.

I basically went from thinking I had it easily to now knowing I can't win, because one cheapie broke down in front of him and took him out.

There's still a lot of G1s and G2s left to run in July. I'm sure you were set up to do well, but it may be a little early in the month to claim victory in a contest that has 24 racing days left to go.

That being said, I think choosing Jockeys is the single toughest part of this contest. A ton of stables have G. Gomez, but do you really want a jock who is running 3 days a week at Monmouth, and is going against 12 horse fields all day long?

The #9 acted like dead wood on a candlepin bowling lane taking out 4 others.

You know it's pretty bad when your race call goes quiet with "Ohhhh.....that can't be good there....."

My entry called "Freddy Mo" had Awesome Gem and a killer week - and my entry called "The Fat Man" is in 4th place and set up incredibly well for the rest of the month even though it's been deprived of over 1K points because of the Parker injury.. and will continue to be deprived going forward.

It's kind of lame that a single jockey can earn over 4k points in one month under the current scoring system - but a horse gets only 2K for a Grade 1 win.

If not for the Parker injury ... I'm convinced my FreddyMo and TheFatMan entries would be in a stretch duel and finish a clear cut 1-2.

This is a free contest, yes? This is not a tough 10k beat. You lost nothing. Time maybe.

Default Hit Parade Continues

Jockey Tyler Pizarro has suffered a broken collar bone and will be sidelined four to six weeks, according to his agent and sister, Kerry Beauclaire. Pizarro, who stands seventh in races won at the meeting with 30 and ninth in money won with $1.3 million, was involved in a spill during Saturday's 10th race at Woodbine.

I still don't see anything written anywhere about Parker's injury.

The guy had won 177 races and wasn't even riding in Jan or Feb.

He was a 1/20 favorite to lead the nation in wins by a jockey.. and he's black.

Who is the last black jockey to lead the nation in wins?
