His major accomplishments were all with the Cubs, plus if he wasn't on the Cubs, he wouldn't be in the HOF.

I understand Maddox going in as a Brave, ALOT of his accomplishments were AS A BRAVE!

Dawson got in on his numbers. His one MVP didn't lock him in there, or Dale Murphy would be in the Hall. Most of his best outings were in Montreal.

Dawson had 1,575 of his 2,774 hits as an Expo, won six of his eight Gold Glove awards in Montreal and led the Expos to their only postseason series win with a five-game victory over the Phillies in 1981.

One of Four guys to have 400HR's and 300SB's (250 came in Montreal)
5 of 6 seasons in a row as a 20/20 player. All in Montreal. I know knees were going out by 1985.

Edit: Whoops and Rookie of the Year

MVP 1987 Cubs
Finished 2nd in 1981 to Mike Schmidt
Finished 2nd in 1983 to Dale Murphy

3 of 4 Silver Sluggers in Montreal.

Outside of 1987 his best seasons were in '80, '81, '83. The MVP voting confirms it.

Had to resurrect this thread now that Dawson is in the HOF. I still don't get how Dawson won the 1987 MVP award - his OBP that year was lower than the other 17 position players who received MVP votes in 1987 - and his career OBP is absolutely anemic. There's no other way to say it: Dawson was an absolute out machine during his career. Anyway, while he's not as poor a recent BBWAA selection as Jim Rice, a fair case can be made for dozens of other neglected guys now that the Hawk has earned HOF enshrinement.

Good point!

They didn't know what OBP was in 1987.

How can a player really be "most valuable" when his team stinks anyway? There were probably a good half dozen players who legitimately deserved the MVP award over Dawson in 1987 anyway. Though Steve Bedrosian somehow won the NL Cy Young award that year, so what did the voters really know anyway.

When someone can produce the official MLB definition of what an MVP is.....why then we can argue.

It's a popularity/unpopularity contest.

And it's stupid....like you.

Well, that seemed unnecessary. But thanks.
