You mean we can cook and clean and do this too?
Oh my God, check out the captions!
They actually looked at the entries, dontchaknow. Seriously back then, for those of you who were around (and I mean who were adults back then) was it really so shocking? Were women really treated like sideshow freaks and retards if the looked at the form and (gasp!) placed a bet? Unfuc**ng real. http://offtoaflyingstartpress.com/20...e-way-we-were/ |

I'm being serious. Maybe I missed what you found offensive. What was it?

Any picture of any guy... it just wouldn't say "this bettor is making sure she has the right...", "They're very serious about studying the entries" kinda thing. Picture, caption, blah blah blah making picks. Maybe I'm reading something into it that isn't there. To me the implication is women are stupid and oh look some of them actually bet as if in a sideshow... like its the most abmornal behavior evah. I might be wrong, of course. It's just how it made me feel though. |

I wasn't even born yet when these pictures were published...but I think that was how you used to bet at OTB. Instead of numbers, you bet by letter? Maybe someone knows for sure.
But it was almost 40 years ago...totally different time. I think you're reading way too much into it. |

First time I was in one was 1984 in Queens... It was the same as wagering at the track except I think they only had WPS and DD wagers - I could be wrong about that but I seem to only remember the place pretty much sucked

Any idea what the logic behind that was? Seems like it could be confusing.

Those chicks were absolutely massive for those times. They would be at least 3 bills like Joey if they were alive today.

It was confusing. Never was sure why they did it that way. Most of the time it was pretty straightforward ie A=1, B=2, C=3 etc., but with entries and/or scratches, you really had to pay attention or you could make a mistake.
