Since 90% of the horses running at Philly are stabled there pretty much everyone is in the same boat. In fact some of the older lower level horses will probably benefit from not training so much.
I saw the track was open a few days and workouts were published but I didn't realize it had been open for training since last Wednesday. Thanks for the info.

Did you miss "not that this isnt a good idea"? Of course it should be decreased but what I am saying is that they will decrease takeout and use it as "evidence" that lowering takeout doesn't work. If you lower takeout at a track like Penn sure the handle will go up. It may double. But it will likely never get high enough for them to make enough money on the racing end to not want to get rid of the headache. They will say that yes decreasing the takeout did increase handle but not enough to allow racing to be "self sustaining".

So you are afraid the state is going to agree to lower takeouts witness a increase in handle and then abandon racing because Penn nat(whoever) tells them even with a lower takeout we cant afford the burden of racing?

I think that it will be a done deal before they do anything. Only the truly naive think that state or local govt aren't in the pockets of large corps like Penn National gaming. It may take a few years but he is setting the table for the future when the opportune time occurs.

I dont see takeout ever being decreased to a level that will attract so much more handle. It would have to be cut by at least a third to have such a dramatic impact. Doubling Penn's handle is more a function of ditching the 5 claimers which aint happening so fast. there are 15oo head on the grounds 800 of which should have another career

Very disappointing to have bean counters in the position that this guy from Penn is in . No imagination, no creativity, all negative , depressed opinions . Smart ass comments like "I'm glad the horses are eating well." Why do they even bother to retain him ? He's a drag on our sport and life in general .

Why does he bother to get out of bed in the morning ? Genting said they would integrate their casino experience with the track. Maybe this guy is pissed because NY slam dunked his lousy bid for the Aq racino into the garbage can.

Parx Racing in suburban Philadelphia, plagued by moisture in the base of the racing surface that alternates between freezing and thawing, hopes to resume live racing on Saturday after scrapping its fifth consecutive program on Wednesday.
