Default Where, if at all, should the line(s) be drawn?

I saw a name today and it made me wonder all over again about something...

I don't have pp's but there's a horse in the final at SA, Lisa Lulu, who I had asked about at the end of last year.

As far as I can remember she had 24 starts last year (I think that number is right).

Now I know they're race horses but what I'm wondering is is that too much?

One of the arguments I had on here quite a while ago was when an older horse was entered. I'm sure a few of you remember the tale of Alpena Magic.

http://www.ellisparkracing.com/events/?p=alpena

He was 17 at the time.

Should there be rules about how old is too old and how often is too often?

If they're pretty old or if they're entered too often should someone step in cause they're possibly accidents waiting to happen or is it wrong to inflict and enforce some set of rules on individual owners and trainers?

She's only won once, but has hit the board plenty recently. I see nothing wrong with running a seemingly sound horse often. It's much worse try to bring an older horse (she's only four) back off a very long lay-off after a serious injury than something like this.

There are rules about how old is too old at at least some tracks. Maxwell G. ran into them when he 14 or 15, had to win a race at Rillito before he was eligible to run at Turf Paradise. But he'd been in training straight through, no years off.

I agree but then there are hores like Red Nickle who broke down at Penn during a workout a few days ago (RIP) who there were, apparently, questions surrounding to put it nicely.

In her post Ann said there are rules at some tracks.

Should there be uniform rules regarding age anyway?

Should there be any rules at all regarding frequency?

What are the rules regarding age and where are they?

Is all this information in any one place and if not, why not?

It should be.

This is something to get angry about.

I know!

... and I almost got sick when I read the "At least I keep trying" line (re Fort Delaware).

They are not all meant to be racehorses.

Easy for me to sit here and judge, I know, but come on... she's not going to win.

Sad stuff.
