Default 3.5 Minutes Straight Down

Since they didn't lose cabin pressure you can be sure every passenger was completely aware they were going to die. Simply awful. How these guys in a stall could pull up is beyond me.

What is sad is that two pilots couldn't figure out the reason why their corrective measures were not working (reacting to false data as equipment failure was misleading them) That's what's most scary as a passenger - you'd think that decision tree branch would be an automatic and immediate thing, to doubt the equipment (it sure is in medicine)

highly recommend this book. it's a voyeurs delight. i hate people that slow down to stare at accidents on the freeway but couldn't put this down. i guess i'm inconsistent, huh?

anyhoo, if you pick it up there's a transcript of a flight from panama to somewhere in s. america where the failure suspected in the air france flight occurred. faulty air speed data. except it was caused by the crew that cleans the plane failing to remove tape covering the pitot tubes after they washed it. instead of ice buildup.

after that, they required the use of tape thats a different color from the plane.

the flight where the pilot starts humming a nursery rhyme just before impact was sadder than the ones where it's just (expletive deleted).

I would probably read that. I really don't like to fly to begin with.

These are 2 quite different activities. One is much sicker than the other. One is simple curiousity. The other is an interest in the terror someone was experiencing right before they knew they were gunna die. I guess one could make excuses (like I want to hear the mistakes they made etc.,) but really it's the literary version of watching a dog be burned to death by sickos. Even the term you used is usually reserved for one who gets a sexual pleasure from watching others.

"Whenever possible, MacPherson has added weather notes and descriptions of events in the cockpit and cabin, heightening our vivid sense of being there during the final terrifying moments of a doomed flight. "

That floats ya boat?

my own self analysis about why i found this fascinating was more along the lines of dealing with the undeniable fact that i'll eventually die and the existential crisis that causes.

but few of us are good at rummaging around our own basements so i'll admit it's an open question.

of course, i weigh all that against your interpretation coming from a guy that thought beating someone into a coma for wearing the wrong hat was awesome.

Well, I didn't want to see it being done. Just think he didn't belong there. You know they could dedicate an area for them to sit (and give them lower prices as an incentive.) I actually had an idea to keep it from happening again. You are not a baseball fan. So, you really don't know the odd situation we're talking about. It is a bit unique to baseball.

Btw, this is like the 3000th time on here that you've distracted, distorted etc. This was distraction. You and Indian Charlie have these pet distractions tied to your belt (like a set of keys.)

I do not know what I said, but Thank You. We are now 3000 miles away from your voyeurism.

there was something about going down...

hard! hard! hard!

it was some low level gangsta rap wannabe crap if that helps.

i'm surprised you've missed out on voyeurism. there's a multi-billion dollar porn industry built on the fact that everyone with a penis likes watching. you should try it.

Damn, we're entrusting our lives to mere humans

Yea, but voyeurism is not the correct term for what you're doing when your reading that book. I just don't have the correct term for it. Voyeurism is not usually the term used when someone is enjoying observing people in terror. Guess I'd call it Soft Sadism. Actually, the first third of each American Idol Season is based on the fact that many people enjoy some of this. Horror movies, the same.
