At least Silver Charm was a great horse. The rest, not so much.

cant argue there.

souvenir copy--was so so

Worldy Manner looked like he was going to be something, that the Arabs in blue shelled out a ton. Ran like a dud in the Ky Derby and didnt do much after that

Forest Camp--wasnt actually all that bad, but he was no Forestry

Flame Thrower--couldnt stretch out and wasnt so good anymore towards the late 2yr old yr

Officer looked like a super horse before the BC Juvy, and then running back the following Saturday to also lose. I remember this vividly as I had won some $800 win voucher giveaway at Emerald Downs but to keep the cash, I had to put a win bet on a horse and win. Well it went to Officer..OUCH!

Icecoldbeer was an ok horse

Midshimpan they took him back to Dubai then poof, combine that with soundness issues, they could of actually had a good one here.

Looking at Lucky owners would kill to at least have one horse like this in their lifetime, sure he wasnt the best or talented but he was good. For Baffert and Pegram Lucky was just par for the course.

Drill--dont know what to think yet, we still have much to see or not see from this one

I always thought Silver Charm was good but never thought he was great. He made his big claim to fame by winning the first two legs of the TC but I thought he was lucky to win the Preakness because of Touch Gold's rough trip. I thought Touch Gold was the one that should have won two legs that year. Silver Charn certainly earns points for consistency at the top level but I never considered him to be truly great.

Agreed.

I seem to be in the small minority that thinks that that crop was overrated and overhyped. It was a strong crop certainly, but back then, everyone seemed to think it was 1973.

I think Silver Charm won a few more big races in his career beyond the Derby and Preakness. He won the Dubai World Cup, the San Fernando, Strub, Foster, Kentucky Cup Classic, Goodwood, and the Clark to name a few. All graded stakes. He was no flash in the pan who was never heard from again after the Triple Crown.

By the end of their respective careers Silver Charm proved that he was better than Touch Gold.

That may have been more of a result of durability.

Which I guess is part of the equation.

Per Baffert, the reason Silver Charm didn't win the Belmont is that he didn't see Touch Gold coming down the middle of the track so he didn't know to dig in again. I know trainers blow smoke up our rears sometimes, but to say Silver Charm didn't like being passed is an understatement, so I can believe it. He didn't lose from an empty tank from what I saw. Touch Gold deserves a lot of credit though, dealing with that hoof injury from the Preakness. He just didn't win without some bad racing luck for SC.

Lookin at Lucky would've dominated this year Handicap division in Cali and, would've gave Tizway some competition.
