For those of you not from the N.Y. area, Jerry Bossert is the N.Y. Daily News handicapper. He also does a little column in the paper that either racaps some of the days action and maybe reports some sort of story.

Related NewsA Winter chill over the Pick 6After a forgettable fourth-place finish as the 2-5 favorite in last month's Lake Placid Stakes, Winter Memories returns to action Saturday in the Grade I, $250,000 Garden City Stakes.

The gray 3-year-old filly will have a new jockey as Javier Castellano replaces Jose Lezcano, who was aboard her in the eventful Lake Placid, which saw her alter course in the stretch, brushing the rail at one point.

It was the first time in her seven-race career that she finished worse than second.

Winter Memories breaks from post four in the Garden City, just outside of Hungry Island, who pulled off the upset in the Lake Placid and will once again be ridden by Alex Solis.

The Garden City is the lone Grade I race offered at Belmont during the month of September.

* Rail Trip appears the one to beat in today's third race, the $60,000 Pot O' Luck Stakes. The lone Grade I winner in the field of six is coming off a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Whitney Handicap, which was won by Tizway last month at the Spa. The 6-year-old has won eight of 15starts, including the 2009 Hollywood Gold Cup, but hasn't won since taking the Grade II Californian Stakes on June 12, 2010, and is riding a four-race losing streak.

* Jockey Mary Brock brought home her first winner since Dec. 19, 2001 when she rallied Salsa Mambo ($35.20) up the rail to upset yesterday's fourth race. It was the 25th winner of her career that began in 1995. This was only her 29th mount since her last victory, as Brock is primarily an exercise rider for Gary Contessa, who trains the 2-year-old filly. Brock, 37, has now ridden Salsa Mambo in all four of her lifetime starts.

* Horse of the Year contender Blind Luck worked five furlongs in :59.20 yesterday at Hollywood Park as she prepares for a likely start in the Oct. 1 Lady's Secret Stakes at Santa Anita. The work was the fastest of 39 at the distance.

* There were audio issues that began shortly after the start of the "Talking Horses" program, causing it to be canceled yesterday. Depending on your view, that could have been considered a blessing.

WEDNESDAY'S CARD
6TH: Trainer Bruce Levine, who seldom wins first time out, unveiled a good-looking firster in Undaunted Ella, who battled with favored Flea Flicker from the start, putting her away before holding off My Jopia to score in a solid debut. The word must have been out as Undaunted Ella was only 2-1 on the board.

9TH: Unlike at Saratoga, where there were two or three more races after this one, the finale was won by Glory in Motion, giving jockey Alan Garcia three on the day, including a sweep of the late double.

WTF is the story with that? To me it seems like a direct shot at what is the best pre-race handicapping show in the country. Maybe somebody is just a little jealous at the success of the show.

He could be talking about the Andy lean. Usually when Andy touts a horse it gets bet down significantly.

It doesn't affect me because I haven't found a winner in months.

Never leaves the press box unless the copier breaks and has never had an original thought in his career. Got to live in his parent's basement because I can't imagine he gets paid much for what he does.

Well I guess it can't be considered a cheap shot, if it's indeed true.
