WO Woodbine Mile S (G1): Turallure 101
WO Natalma S (G3): Northern Passion 85

Steve One of two things here either the Mile figure of 101 is too high or the Natalma figure of 85 is too low

There was exactly .08 difference in the final time 1:34.92 vs 1:35.00.

I understand one was ran on Sat and the Mile on Sunday. I was not there but I have spoke to our crew there and they tell me the turf was the same on both days. If that is true then one of the figure is off. Not sure which one but I would lean to the side of the Mile figure being to High.

Not to sound like Jerry Brown, but there are A LOT of different factors that can cause a change in how fast a surface is playing from day to day.

They ran the race Saturday with the rail out 15-feet - and on Sunday they ran it over the course. That is probably way down there on the list of things that can cause a surface to change speed from day-to-day ... each day is its own entity.

Do you think the Natalma winner would have been in a photo with Turallure and Courageous Cat?

But it is what you are saying whether you specifically realize it or not. Questioning figures is good to do, but the questions you ask should be to yourself first, and the first one is the question I asked you. Since I would assume you don't believe she would have been in a photo with them, you then also realize why, despite the times, the figures are significantly different.

Common sense goes a long way towards answering most questions at the racetrack.

common sense is the least common thing at the racetrack though. It's generally in short supply everywhere.

Yeah, those turf Beyers are the end all, be all.

What is so bad about a 2yo in September running an 80.
Some of the best older Horses in the country are only running around 100.

I thought the purpose of the figures was to evaluate a performance, not necessarily how good the horse is that turns in that performance. Obviously, the biggest thing in this case is the races were on different days so they can't be compared accurately. It just always feels like the name of the horse and the level of the race is given too much weigh when it comes to making figures. When you are talking about other systems, ones where many factors (ie ground lost, weight, wind) are used, I can easily see why some races that might appear to have been the same based on final time would have different numbers. As far as I understand though, and I could be wrong, Beyer's don't take those things into consideration and are based strictly on final times and pars. With that in mind, two totally different classes of horses could run similar times in different races and receive the same figures without it meaning that the horses are of the same calibur. Races are run different. Paces are different. Field sizes are different. Many things lead to the final time.

The horse to want coming out of the Natalma is Stephanie's Kitten.

Maybe Pat can become a quasi bloodstock agent like Vic and off this Kitten to Godolphin in time for the Carnival or maybe if not the Carnival the Big Apple Circus?
