TDN: Bluegrass Cat moving to New York
Bluegrass Cat to New York
TDN & Press Release Vinery Ltd. and WinStar Farm announced Friday that Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat--She's A Winner, by A.P. Indy) will stand the 2012 season at Sugar Maple Farm in New York as part of a joint venture between the two operations. Having entered stud at WinStar's Kentucky base in 2007, the GI Haskell Invitational S. winner and GI Kentucky Derby runner-up produced MGSW Kathmanblu and GSW Blue Laser in his first crop and has eight juvenile winners this year. "We identified Bluegrass Cat as a top stallion and approached WinStar with the idea of partnering," explained Vinery President Tom Ludt. "We wanted to give the New York breeders another reason to stay home, and have the type of stallion that Kentucky breeders will follow. Elliot Walden, president and CEO of WinStar added, "We're ready to make a big splash in New York. It's a market we've looked at with great interest for some time now because of the unlimited potential. Going into New York with a top-caliber stallion like Bluegrass Cat, and partnering with an established forerunner in New York like Vinery, fit the bill for us. WinStar has been fortunate to have enjoyed success in venture stallions such as Tiznow and Speightstown, and we're looking forward to continued success with Vinery. WinStar plans on breeding as many mares to him in New York as we did in Kentucky." A stud fee for Bluegrass Cat, who stood for $25,000 in 2011, will be announced at a later date.
