Default A soap box moment.

I'm not really a pretty horsey person...I don't allow myself to get emotionally attached to anything I don't own...spares me the heartaches later.

I saw a photo yesterday that is absolutely haunting me....nothing graphic. Just a picture of a horse standing calmly while a farrier pulls his shoes. there is a pile of shoes behind the farrier. The horse is getting ready to go in the kill pen at New Holland.

A healthy horse. A well behaved horse. A horse that had a job before he arrived.

I can't get that horse out of my head.

and I cant save him..nor can I save them all.

But I made a donation. Because that is something I can do.

and I won't tell any of you what to do with your money or who to give it to.

But when you win a bet remember that you need to give back to those horses.

Which organizations do you think make the best use of donation dollars?

I like Canter simply because they provide trainers the opportunity to list horses that are still at the track as well as rehab and re-homing.

the rescue group where I saw the photo has a different approach and it seems to work for them but I don't donate to them because they negotiate to buy from a broker who sells to slaughter...I am too conflicted...save a life, but fund the next trip for him to the kill pen?
