'Contrast that with today's trigger-happy Republicans who believe countries in the heart of Islam can be manipulated through military action to align with our interests.'
the vote was 98-0 in the Senate, and 420-1 in the House to 'authorize then-president George W. Bush “to use all necessary and appropriate force” against anyone he held responsible for the 9/11 attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon.' i know fans of democrats like to point fingers only at their gop buddies, but it's simply false. unless of course you can show that those numbers above were exclusively republicans in congress? i don't think that's the case.

Do you have a link to the whole editorial?
Ike was well-admired, and to plenty of Democrats, too: that was before the massive Dem-GOP change in the south that Lyndon caused by the Civil Rights Act. Ike was a model for the Republicanism I was taught and grew up with. Ike wouldn't be accepted in the current incarnation of the Republican Party at all. Either would Reagan, though. Reagan doesn't even meet the current GOP Candidate Purity Test (and yes, that's a real thing that the GOP has) I'm waiting to see what happens to the current GOP. The old party regulars want to retake the party from the wingnuts-John Birchers for 2016, certainly.

thing is, some in congress are privy to much of the same info as the president. was there some snookering? maybe-or maybe not. maybe that's just an alibi for some. and yet, over ten years later....where are we? still continuing those same bush/congress screw ups. why? why are we continuing bad moves? it hasn't gotten better, nor will it. but we're still in that 'war' (never declared mind you), still spending money we don't have, going deeper in debt, with not only a continuation of bush and co's rotten patriot act (with none of the promised changes) but with more bad moves piled on top (ndaa, killing of u.s. citizens without due process), and all the tax breaks instituted previously have been continued. to what end? but republicans want you to think they can fix it. democrats want you to vote them in, or keep them in because they can fix it. they're all full of sh!t. and we're all the creamy center getting crushed between the two kooks...er, cookies. obama fans still think he's soooo great-based on what? he's a liar. just like all the rest. has gitmo been closed? has he had the patriot act repaired or repealed? nope. but his AG is the one saying that u.s. citizens can be murdered by their govt. yeah, he's miles better than ol' georgie who didn't reach quite that far, did he?

Shoot i would have voted yea when presented with the 'facts' given at the time...as we all found out later all the 'reasons' were a pack of complete lies by the Bush war mongers... Let me post my favorite quote on the subject... 'When Bush stood with his arm around a NY fireman after the 9/11 attacks promising to find whoever did this to the nation, he was every American's president. His polls soared. He had a unique opportunity to unite America, to bring the U.S. together with allies round the world to fight terrorism and hate, to eliminate al-Qaida, to eliminate our vulnerabilities, to strengthen important nations threatened by radicalism. He did NONE of those things..He invaded Iraq!....excerpt from Richard Clarke's book..

i understand what happened back then. i also know we've done nothing but add to the mistakes since. my point was and is that the democrats and their supporters are being disingenuous when trying to lay these two pseudo-wars only at the feet of bush and the republicans, while denying all culpability and claiming they were mislead. so, what's happened in the ten years since to rectify the mistakes made? nothing. and yes, bush blew it-with the full support of congress, both democrats and republicans then and since then. throwing more and more men and money away on the mistakes made over a decade ago. oh, and i liked ike. helluva general.

also, keep in mind that there were plenty of senators and house members who voted NO on whether to invade iraq. they took a lot of heat for that at the time. i think people get confused that the overwhelming first vote to do what we must gets all the press, but there were plenty of voices against invading iraq. problem is, they didn't get listened to. the ones who voted yes then claimed they were lied to-but what about all the nays? did they not get lied to?
or maybe the lying was just an excuse later?

it's no more all bush's fault than it is all obama's fault. it's our govt's fault. both parties, all the 'leaders'. look at the report that came out a few months ago that showed what group of people has made money during all this economic turmoil. the federals! members of congress, etc.
